The Boring Company was founded to solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic by creating an underground network of tunnels. Today, we are creating the technology to increase tunneling speed and decrease costs by a factor of 10 or more with the ultimate goal of making Hyperloop adoption viable and enabling rapid transit across densely populated regions.
The Apprentice Welder role is a full-time, entry-level position. The schedule may range between 48-60 hours/week (12-hour shifts), and may include shifts on Sundays. Shift flexibility is appreciated.

Responsibilities
- Grinding: Prepare and finish metal surfaces using grinders and other abrasive tools.
- Bevel Preps: Assist in creating proper bevels on metal components for welding preparation.
- Part Hunting: Locate and retrieve missing or misplaced parts to ensure workflow efficiency.
- Shop Cleanliness & Organization: Help maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop environment.
- Consumables Auditing: Monitor and audit consumable inventory and report shortages.
- Welding Assistance: Perform basic welding tasks under supervision, with increasing responsibility as skills improve.
- Equipment Operation: Driving of general shop equipment (forklifts, boom lifts, scissor lifts, etc.)
- High school diploma or GED
- Experience operating forklifts, or other heavy equipment.
- Basic understanding of welding processes and tools (FCAW preferred)
- Ability to read basic blueprints or willingness to learn
- Strong attention to detail and safety standards
- Willingness to learn and follow instructions
- Previous shop or metalwork experience is a plus, but not required
- Various power tools such as drills, saws, and pneumatic die grinders, etc.
- Basic knowledge of inherent non-destructive evaluation (NDE) inspection methods and criteria including penetrant, visual, and x-ray testing
- Basic skill level using Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, OneNote)
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. unassisted
- Ability to stoop, bend, crawl, and maneuver in tight spaces.
- Ability to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
- Ability to travel for short and extended trips as needed.
- Ability to work outdoors in heavy construction areas.
- This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
