What are the responsibilities and job description for the Surgery Scheduler position at The Bone & Joint Center?
- Call insurance companies for required precertification on orthopaedic and neurological surgeries completed at hospitals and surgery centers.
- Provide precise and helpful information to patients in order to maintain patient satisfaction involving coverage issues or dispute questions (whether in person or on the phone).
- Contact all insurance companies involving approvals, denials and general information.
- Inform Team Lead and/or Director of Business Operations of any concerns with authorization of a procedure.
- Schedules office and hospital based medical procedures for patients with appropriate provider and time/location slot, utilizing appropriate scheduling codes.
- Responds to calls, emails, and queries that patients and providers might have.
- Provide information and updates in regards to patients’ surgery schedules.
- Assist patients with guidance on filing all necessary forms.
- Assist patients with information necessary to pay all medical charges.
- Inform patients and any relevant third party through instructions about “things to do” before and after surgeries.
- Assure appropriate coordination with all involved when special surgical needs occur.
- File, collect, and organize pre and post operational data for reference
- Verify insurance information
- Greet patients and provide outstanding customer service
- Open/Close office for evening
- Complete other duties as assigned

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) plus one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE/MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
- Ability to read, write and speak the English language along with medical terminology.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY
- Ability to solve problems
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
