Position Overview
The Boathouse Restaurant in Santa Barbara, Ca. is seeking an experienced and service-driven Restaurant Floor Manager to lead daily front-of-house operations in a high-volume, fine-dining environment. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for delivering exceptional guest experiences, maintaining service excellence standards, and supporting team development, operational execution, and financial performance.
The Floor Manager acts as the on-floor leader during service—driving hospitality culture, coaching staff in real time, and ensuring flawless execution of service standards.
This position is currently being hired for 4 shifts a week.
Key Responsibilities
Guest Experience & Service Leadership
- Lead floor operations during service, ensuring exceptional guest experiences and adherence to fine-dining service standards.
- Proactively engage with guests, resolve concerns, and manage recovery efforts with professionalism and discretion.
- Ensure consistent execution of steps of service, pacing, and table touches.
Team Leadership & Staffing
- Supervise, coach, and develop front-of-house team members (servers, bartenders, expos, hosts, support staff).
- Enforce our Zero Alcohol Tolerance Policy and other important policy’s that keep our team safe.
- Conduct pre-shift meetings/stand ups for FOH and BOH cohesion.
- Support scheduling to optimize labor costs daily and ensure the restaurant is properly supported.
- Constantly monitor start times, breaks for all FOH employees and ensuring that all employees do not go past 8 hours on any shift.
Operational Excellence
- Coordinate with kitchen and bar teams to maintain smooth service flow and ticket timing.
- Maintain dining room standards for cleanliness, safety, and presentation.
- Constantly evaluating cuisine coming out of the kitchen, customer response and addressing immediate need in remedying any customer concerns therein.
- Assisting the Host Team as needed with overseeing reservations, floor plans, section assignments, and seating flow.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, labor, and alcohol policies.
Financial & Administrative Responsibilities
- Monitor sales performance, labor costs, and operational KPIs throughout any given shift and act accordingly to improve overall outcomes.
- Support budgeting, cost controls, and operational reporting as needed.
Culture & Standards
- Model professionalism, composure, and hospitality leadership during all shifts.
- Foster a high-performance culture focused on sales goals, accountability, guest satisfaction, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
- 2 years of management experience in fine dining or luxury hospitality, preferably in a high-volume or chef-driven concept.
- Multi Unit Management is a plus. There is potential opportunity to be cross trained between 2 of the SB Shellfish Co restaurants.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with POS system (Toast), and scheduling tool (Sling).
- Experience managing teams of 20 FOH staff in high-volume environments.
- Proven ability to lead and coach FOH teams in real time during peak service.
- Strong knowledge of classic service techniques, etiquette, and fine-dining standards.
- Ability to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays in a very fast-paced environment.
- Ability to stand, walk, and lift up to 50 lbs for extended periods.
Preferred
- Wine and beverage knowledge; certifications (WSET, CMS, etc.) strongly preferred.
- Financial acumen including labor management, inventory controls, and P&L understanding.
- Multilingual abilities and global cuisine knowledge a plus.
Compensation & Benefits
- $35 to $40/hr
