As one of the nation's fastest-growing community blood centers, we support hospitals and patients across multiple states through a complex network of donor centers, mobile collection operations, laboratories, manufacturing facilities, warehouses, and distribution operations.

We are seeking an experienced, strategic, and data-driven Director of Supply Chain to lead procurement, inventory management, warehousing, supply planning, and distribution activities that directly support our ability to collect, test, manufacture, and distribute blood products safely and reliably.

Position Overview


The Director of Supply Chain provides strategic and operational leadership for procurement, inventory management, warehousing, supply planning, and distribution activities across The Blood Connection.

Reporting directly to the Vice President of Operational Support, this position is responsible for ensuring uninterrupted availability of critical supplies supporting blood collection, manufacturing, laboratory testing, and distribution operations.

This role is accountable for inventory accuracy, forecasting, supply continuity, vendor management, regulatory compliance, and operational readiness across the organization.

Success in this role requires a demonstrated ability to develop inventory control systems, forecasting methodologies, replenishment strategies, and supply continuity programs that proactively identify and mitigate operational risk.

This position will also play a key leadership role in the selection, implementation, and optimization of the organization's next-generation ERP platform. The Director of Supply Chain will serve as the business owner for all supply chain-related ERP functions, including procurement, inventory management, warehousing, replenishment planning, reporting, and master data governance.


Essential Functions


Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and execute supply chain strategies aligned with organizational goals and growth objectives.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve inventory management, procurement, warehousing, and operational efficiency.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives utilizing Lean, Kanban, demand planning, and inventory optimization methodologies.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and systems that improve inventory visibility, forecasting accuracy, and operational performance.
  • Partner with executive leadership to support strategic planning, operational readiness, and organizational growth.

Inventory Management & Supply Continuity

  • Establish and maintain inventory control systems for all critical operational supplies.
  • Develop and manage minimum and maximum inventory levels, safety stock thresholds, reorder points, and replenishment strategies.
  • Utilize historical consumption data, collection forecasts, operational demand, supplier lead times, and business growth projections to forecast inventory requirements.
  • Monitor inventory trends and proactively identify supply risks before they impact operations.
  • Develop inventory dashboards, key performance indicators, exception reporting, and executive-level inventory reviews.
  • Ensure uninterrupted availability of supplies required for blood collection, laboratory testing, manufacturing, and distribution activities.
  • Develop contingency sourcing plans and continuity strategies for critical inventory items.
  • Lead organization-wide physical inventory programs and inventory accuracy initiatives.
  • Establish accountability measures and controls supporting inventory integrity and operational continuity.

ERP Implementation & Business Systems Leadership

  • Serve as the Supply Chain business lead for ERP selection, implementation, testing, training, deployment, and post-go-live optimization.
  • Partner with Finance, IT, Operations, and implementation partners to define future-state supply chain processes.
  • Lead supply chain process redesign efforts to leverage ERP best practices and automation opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain inventory, purchasing, warehouse, and vendor master data standards.
  • Define system requirements, workflows, controls, dashboards, and reporting necessary to support supply chain operations.
  • Lead user acceptance testing (UAT), business process validation, and cutover planning activities.
  • Ensure ERP configuration supports inventory accuracy, forecasting, replenishment planning, and operational continuity objectives.
  • Drive adoption of system capabilities that improve inventory visibility, purchasing efficiency, inventory management, and supply chain analytics.

Procurement & Vendor Management

  • Direct all procurement and sourcing activities.
  • Negotiate contracts and service agreements with suppliers and vendors.
  • Establish supplier performance expectations and service-level agreements.
  • Evaluate supplier performance and implement corrective actions when necessary.
  • Develop supplier diversification strategies to reduce operational risk.
  • Manage standing orders, supplier replenishment programs, and strategic sourcing initiatives.
  • Oversee procurement of equipment, supplies, and service contracts.

Warehouse Operations

  • Provide leadership and oversight for three warehouse locations and five supply staging locations.
  • Ensure inventory is stored, tracked, and distributed accurately throughout the organization.
  • Establish inventory controls and replenishment strategies across warehouses, staging locations, donor centers, and operational facilities.
  • Manage inventory transfers and ensure system accuracy across all stocking locations.
  • Ensure inventory locations remain organized, labeled, secure, and compliant with applicable standards.
  • Oversee FIFO inventory management and expiration date controls.
  • Manage product quarantines, recalls, non-conforming materials, and disposition activities.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, quality, and accreditation requirements.

Supply Distribution

  • Ensure timely fulfillment and delivery of supplies to donor centers, mobile operations, laboratories, warehouses, and operational facilities.
  • Oversee inventory replenishment activities supporting regional operations.
  • Maintain visibility of inventory movement throughout the organization.

Financial & Administrative Responsibilities

  • Assist in development and management of departmental budgets.
  • Partner with Finance regarding inventory valuation, forecasting, purchasing activities, and month-end close processes.
  • Develop policies, procedures, work instructions, and process documentation supporting supply chain activities.
  • Manage company-wide contracts and electronic contract repositories.
  • Lead assigned supply chain projects and organizational improvement initiatives.
  • Provide executive leadership with regular reporting on inventory performance, supply risks, cost management, and operational metrics.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, develop, and mentor Supply Chain personnel.
  • Build a culture of accountability, customer service, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Establish performance expectations and evaluate employee performance against measurable objectives.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and retain high-performing team members.
  • Coach, counsel, and discipline employees as appropriate.
  • Ensure staff competency, regulatory compliance, and ongoing professional development.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, or related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive supply chain leadership experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years managing inventory, procurement, warehousing, or supply planning operations within a healthcare, blood banking, pharmaceutical, laboratory, manufacturing, or other regulated environment.
  • Demonstrated experience managing critical inventories where supply interruptions could impact production, testing, product release, patient care, or customer service.
  • Proven success developing inventory forecasting models, safety stock strategies, inventory control programs, and continuity planning processes.
  • Experience managing multi-site inventory operations across warehouses, distribution points, healthcare facilities, or geographically dispersed locations.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or serving as a key business stakeholder in ERP implementation, optimization, or major system conversion projects involving inventory management, procurement, warehouse management, or supply planning functions.
  • Strong analytical, financial, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • APICS/ASCM Certification (CPIM, CSCP) or equivalent supply chain certification.
  • Experience leading the supply chain workstream for a NetSuite, Acumatica, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Oracle, SAP, Infor, or similar ERP implementation.
  • Experience implementing Kanban, Lean Inventory Management, Demand Planning, or Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) methodologies.
  • Experience with ERP data conversion, master data governance, business process redesign, and system integration projects.
  • Experience supporting blood banking, biologics, laboratory testing, healthcare distribution, or regulated manufacturing operations.
  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or related discipline.
