We seek candidates who hold high expectations for students, design learning experiences that prioritize adolescent well-being and belonging, are enthusiastic about working on teams and are eager to pursue growth in their teaching practice.Our goals are to foster curiosity, encourage active student engagement, encourage collaboration in the classroom and direct students to take ownership of their learning. Position Summary Description  The Bishop’s School seeks a full-time Chemistry Teacher beginning August 2026. The ideal candidate will have a background in teaching chemistry at the high school level, and will demonstrate interdisciplinary capacity with the ability to teach additional subjects within the department such as biology, environmental science, or biochemistry. The Science Department seeks candidates who are enthusiastic about working with teaching teams and other departmental colleagues to develop, iterate upon, and align lab-focused, inquiry-based, student-centered curricula throughout the Science Department.Bishop’s faculty communicate regularly with students, parents and administrators on student progress and are regularly expected to supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the school day and after school. In addition to teaching, faculty serve as advisors to students and offer daily office hours.Responsibilities Include:Teach three sections of chemistry (with a lab component), and a semester-length elective courseMeaningfully engage with students through advisoryEngage in co-curricular activities as assignedEmploy a variety of pedagogical approaches to teach students with an array of learning stylesBe available to students during office hours and at other times throughout the day to provide guidance and support as neededCollaborate with departmental colleagues in the development of curriculum and meaningful, relevant, learner-centered classroom experiencesProvide timely communication to students and their parents/guardians relating to grading and current academic standingUphold the School’s Core ValuesDemonstrate professionalism and tactStay up to date on industry standards, trends, developments and legal updatesMake timely and ethical decisions both systematically and under pressureComply with School’s reporting policies and proceduresMaintain a clean, safe and organized work areaRequired Qualifications:A bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in chemistry or a related field; advanced degree in chemistry or education (preferred)A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in high school chemistryExperience teaching at the honors or AP levelExcellent chemistry content knowledgeAbility to teach biology in addition to chemistry (preferred)Knowledge of laboratory safety standards and best practicesInterest in supporting current co-curricular programsAn unequivocal passion for working with adolescents and supporting them in all facets of their livesAbility to integrate technology into instructionEagerness to collaborate with other department members in creating meaningful, relevant, learner-centered classroom experiencesAbility to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with students, parents, faculty, staff, administrators, and the broader school communityStrong work ethic, time management, verbal, written language, and interpersonal skillsIrrespective of own religious orientation, ability to support the School’s mission and values as a school founded in the Episcopal traditionCommitment to well-being as the foundation for growthThe anticipated salary range for this position is $80,000 to $110,000 based on experience.In addition to competitive salary, The Bishop's School offers a comprehensive menu of benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance plans, generous PTO, robust professional development opportunities, and chef-prepared lunch provided to employees at no charge on a daily basis when school is in session.Application DeadlineInterested candidates are encouraged to use the link provided to submit a resume, cover letter, and a sample of work (a lesson plan, lab, or project) to the attention of Ian Hayden, Dean of Faculty.Applications received by January 20, 2026 will be afforded priority consideration.
