Our shop valuesmeticulous attention to detail, creativity, and a deep respect for the tradition of Irish music.Position OverviewWe are seeking a skilled Manual Lathe and Mill Operator to join our instrument-making team. This roleis essential in producing precision components for uilleann pipes, including chanters, drones, stocks,regulators, and metal fittings.Key Responsibilities• Operate manual lathes and manual milling machines to produce wood and metal parts to tighttolerances.• Turn and bore chanter, drone, and regulator components to established measurements and designspecifications.• Machine brass, stainless steel, aluminum, and select hardwoods.• Perform precision drilling, slotting, threading, and facing operations.• Maintain consistent bores, wall thicknesses, and surface finishes.• Read and interpret technical drawings, templates, and measurement sheets.• Fit and finish parts to ensure proper assembly and airtightness.• Inspect parts using micrometers, calipers, and precision gauges.• Maintain machines through cleaning, lubrication, and tool sharpening.• Collaborate with the instrument maker to improve processes.Qualifications• Experience with manual lathe and mill operation.• Ability to hold tight tolerances (±0.001"–±0.005").• Experience machining metals and hardwoods.• Attention to detail and craftsmanship.• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.Physical Requirements• Ability to stand for extended periods.• Ability to lift materials up to ~40 lbs.• Comfort performing fine hand-tool work.
