We seek a highly experienced and passionate Director of Operations and Food Manufacturing to lead our production team and drive operational excellence.
Position Summary
The Director of Operations and Food Manufacturing is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing all aspects of our food manufacturing, packaging, and supply chain operations. This individual will be a key driver of our company's growth, ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality, and efficiency. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of food manufacturing processes, cGMP (Current Good Manufacturing Practices), and consumer packaged goods production. Although not imperative, Bettering prefers a candidate with experience in the cannabis sector.
Key Responsibilities
· Manufacturing and Production:
o Oversee and manage all day-to-day manufacturing operations, including production scheduling, inventory management, and quality control.
o Lead the production team, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and safety.
o Optimize production processes to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and improve product consistency.
o Ensure all manufacturing activities comply with state cannabis regulations, cGMP, and all other applicable food safety standards (e.g., HACCP).
o Ensure proper storage, handling, disposal of raw ingredients, cannabis extracts and other production materials.
o Develop and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all operational activities; including TBC proprietary products and co-manufacturing partner products
o Provide support for troubleshooting mechanical issues and ensuring equipment is functioning optimally
· Quality and Compliance:
o Implement and maintain robust quality assurance and control systems to ensure product safety, potency, and quality.
o Serve as the primary liaison for all regulatory inspections and audits particularly with the Illinois Department of Agriculture and Illinois State Police.
o Stay current on all cannabis and food manufacturing regulations, ensuring the company remains in full compliance.

· Supply Chain and Logistics:
o Manage the entire supply chain, from raw material procurement to finished goods distribution.
o Negotiate with suppliers to secure high-quality ingredient at competitive prices.
o Optimize inventory levels to meet production demands while minimizing carrying costs.
o Oversee logistics and distribution to ensure timely and accurate delivery to our partners.
· Leadership and Team Management:
o Recruit, train, mentor, and manage a diverse team of production supervisors, operators, and staff.
o Lead performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and develop professional growth plans for team members.
o Foster a positive and collaborative work environment focused on achieving company goals.
o Maintain accurate records for HR matters, equipment maintenance, facility inspections, visitor registrations and all expenditures related to the production facility.
· Strategic Planning & Budgeting:
o Develop and manage the annual facility budget, including capital expenditures for new equipment and facility improvements.
o Contribute to the company's strategic planning, providing insights on operational capabilities, scalability, and new product development.
o Identify and implement new technologies and systems to enhance operational efficiency.
Qualifications
· Associates degree (minimum) in Food Science, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
· 5 years of leadership experience in a food manufacturing or consumer packaged goods (CPG) environment.
· Proven experience in a highly regulated industry, with a strong preference for experience in cannabis.
· Deep knowledge of cGMP, HACCP, and other food safety protocols.
· Strong financial acumen with experience in budget management, cost accounting and cost control.
· Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
· Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
· Proficiency in using ERP/MRP systems and other manufacturing software.
· Must be able to pass a background check and meet all state-specific cannabis licensing requirements including successful registration as Agent-In-Charge in Illinois.
