Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Substance Abuse Counselor to join our dynamic behavioral health team. In this vital role, you will provide comprehensive addiction counseling and mental health support to individuals struggling with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions. Your expertise will guide clients through recovery, utilizing evidence-based practices, therapeutic interventions, and personalized treatment plans. Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough client assessments, including diagnostic evaluations using DSM-5 criteria, to develop tailored treatment plans.
  • Deliver individual and group counseling sessions utilizing evidence-based therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), behavioral therapy, and motivational interviewing to foster positive change.
  • Facilitate crisis intervention and crisis management strategies to ensure client safety during acute episodes or emergencies.
  • Engage in case management activities, coordinating care with healthcare providers, family members, and community resources for holistic treatment.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in compliance with medical documentation standards, HIPAA regulations, and electronic health records (EHR/EHR) management systems.
  • Provide specialized services including child & family counseling, PTSD care, addiction medicine, and working with individuals with co-occurring disorders.
  • Support clients through intake procedures, ongoing patient assessment, and behavioral health interventions aligned with DSM-5 guidelines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field; licensure or certification as required by state law.
  • Proven experience working with individuals with substance use disorders and mental health conditions; familiarity with addiction counseling techniques.
  • Strong knowledge of clinical documentation standards, ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD), CPT coding (CPT), and medical terminology.
  • Expertise in psychotherapy modalities such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and applied behavior analysis.
  • Experience working within hospital settings or home & community care environments is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse cultural backgrounds and demonstrate cultural competence in client interactions.
  • Excellent crisis management skills along with the ability to perform client assessments in therapy settings while maintaining patient confidentiality under HIPAA guidelines.
  • Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems for documentation and patient record management; familiarity with clinical documentation standards is essential.
