Summary

The Superintendent is responsible for leading the day-to-day field execution of mission-critical and commercial construction projects while ensuring safe, high-quality, and schedule-driven project delivery. This role serves as the primary field leader, coordinating subcontractors, field supervision, craft personnel, vendors, and project teams throughout all phases of construction.

The Superintendent works closely with Project Managers, Foremen, Operations Leadership, and clients to execute project schedules, maintain quality standards, proactively manage field risks, and deliver exceptional client experiences. Success in this role requires strong leadership, communication, planning, and problem-solving skills in fast-paced, technically complex construction environments.

Essential Functions

Preconstruction/Estimating/Sales

  • Participate in all preconstruction meetings with Project Managers, Foremen, Operations Leadership, and project teams.
  • Review site logistics, constructability, access, safety requirements, and existing conditions prior to mobilization.
  • Coordinate with general contractors, owners, design teams, subcontractors, commissioning partners, and other trades to support project execution.
  • Review project schedules, critical milestones, Required On Job (ROJ) dates, and manpower requirements.
  • Identify construction risks and develop mitigation strategies related to safety, quality, logistics, schedule, procurement, and long-lead materials.
  • Support development and implementation of Project Delivery Plans (PDPs).
  • Assist Project Managers in identifying scope gaps, constructability issues, and production opportunities before construction begins.
  • Coordinate initial material procurement and field logistics.

Production/Execution

  • Lead day-to-day field execution of assigned mission-critical construction projects.
  • Coordinate field activities among subcontractors, self-perform crews, vendors, and project stakeholders.
  • Ensure critical-path activities remain on schedule while proactively identifying recovery opportunities.
  • Monitor production, manpower, schedule performance, quality, safety, and field productivity.
  • Conduct regular jobsite walks to verify work quality and to maintain schedule.
  • Partner with Project Managers to document field issues affecting budget, schedule, quality, procurement, or owner commitments.
  • Support commissioning activities, equipment installation, startup sequencing, and turnover requirements.
  • Implement and maintain QA/QC programs throughout project execution.
  • Ensure accurate field documentation including RFIs, daily reports, inspections, punch lists, and turnover documentation.
  • Lead project reviews and lessons learned activities.

Field Management

  • Multi-site responsibility and oversight of commercial construction operations.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop Foremen, Assistant Superintendents, and field leadership while promoting accountability, collaboration, and operational excellence.
  • Coordinate logistics, material flow, equipment utilization, and field resources to maximize project efficiency.
  • Develop succession plans for high-potential field leaders within the Berg Team including supporting recruitment, onboarding, training, and career development of field personnel.
  • Mentor and encourage the growth of all employees and build morale on project sites with positive reinforcement and feedback.
  • Actively oversees and coaches’ Foreman around project budget, material purchasing, and manpower planning.
  • Assist Foreman in identifying best practices in job sequencing and speaks on behalf of The Berg Group to clients and general contractors as needed.
  • Regularly shares accurate job site progress with Foreman; motivates them to push their teams and ultimately exceeds bid profit through visibility.

  • Provide time for regular and effective 1 on 1 meetings with all direct reports.
  • Coach, mentor, and collaborate with direct reports regularly.
  • Establishes and achieves specific, measurable, and obtainable objectives that support Berg's overall growth and profitability objectives while creating client, employee, and company success.

Qualifications

Experience and Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • 8 years of commercial construction field supervision experience.
  • Experience leading large commercial, industrial, infrastructure, or mission-critical construction projects including a strong understanding of CSA (Civil, Structural & Architectural) and MEP coordination.
  • Strong understanding of construction sequencing, logistics planning, procurement, and field operations.
  • Experience coordinating multiple subcontractors and project stakeholders.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex construction drawings and specifications.
  • Experience implementing QA/QC programs.
  • Strong understanding of project scheduling and critical-path management.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud/PlanGrid, Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, or similar construction software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience delivering mission-critical, hyperscale data center, industrial, semiconductor, healthcare, or advanced manufacturing projects.
  • Experience supporting commissioning and project turnover.
  • OSHA 30 or equivalent safety certification.
  • Experience leading projects exceeding $25M.

  • This position requires frequent walking, standing, climbing stairs and ladders, kneeling, crouching, balancing, bending, and navigating active construction sites.
  • Regularly inspect work areas, access elevated work locations, and traverse uneven terrain while monitoring construction activities.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull materials, equipment, or tools weighing up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
  • Requires the ability to use computers, tablets, mobile devices, and other technology for project documentation, scheduling, reporting, and communication.
  • Must possess visual acuity sufficient to review drawings, specifications, quality standards, and identify construction deficiencies.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both office and field environments, including hearing alarms, equipment, and verbal instructions in high-noise construction settings.
  • Must be able to travel extensively and work extended hours, weekends, or alternate shifts as required to support project schedules and critical project milestones.
  • Work is performed primarily on active commercial and mission-critical construction sites with occasional office work.
  • Exposure to moving equipment, elevated work areas, changing weather conditions, dust, noise, and other construction-related hazards is expected.
  • Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn and all company, client, and regulatory safety requirements must be followed.
  • This position requires regular interaction with clients, trade partners, inspectors, vendors, and project teams in fast-paced, schedule-driven environments.

Travel

  • Up to 90% primarily in their designated market including extended travel to mission-critical construction projects.
  • Ability to complete regular day travel for site visits and client meetings.
  • Travel schedules may include rotational assignments and extended onsite support based on business needs.
