Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor/Facilities Manager
JOB SUMMARY
This position will be responsible for performing a variety of maintenance, repair, and labor tasks campus-wide to ensure the proper upkeep of buildings, equipment, and facilities. This role requires hands-on work involving basic repairs, installation, cleaning, event setup and break-down and maintaining physical structures and systems for any College-owned and/or operated facility. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team. Applicants should have a reliable method of transportation. This class works within a general outline of work to be performed and develops work methods and sequences under general supervision.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs on building systems, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and carpentry.
- Assists with installation, assembly, and setup of equipment, events and furnishings.
- Cleans and maintains common areas, including sweeping, mopping, and dusting.
- Handles basic repairs, such as fixing leaks, changing light bulbs, and repairing doors or windows.
- Assists with landscaping and grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming, and clearing debris.
- Ensures the cleanliness and safety of work environments, reporting potential hazards.
- Carries out basic labor tasks as needed, such as painting, lifting and moving materials, tools, and equipment.
- Assists with the removal of waste, debris, and old equipment.
- Maintains tools and equipment in good working condition, notifying supervisors of damaged or missing items.
- Supports higher-level maintenance staff as needed on more complex projects.
- Responds promptly to emergency maintenance requests.
- Adheres to all safety regulations and guidelines while performing tasks.
- Assists in setting up and breaking down for events or other special requests.
- Performs other duties as assigned by management.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Previous experience in general maintenance, construction, or a similar field preferred.
- Basic knowledge of hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of how to properly perform manual tasks.
- Skill in the use of various trade tools and equipment.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions; basic problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lift heavy objects and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Ability to communicate effectively and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and a commitment to safe work practices.
- Reliable, punctual, and a strong work ethic.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Requires medium-to-heavy work that involves walking, standing, stooping, lifting, digging, pushing or raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis. May be required to use a ladder or scaffolding. May be required to occasionally work in small, hard to reach spaces. Work is performed both inside a facility and outdoors in all weather conditions. Some hazardous situations may exist based on work to be performed.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work environment may risk exposure to bright/dim light, dusts and pollen, extreme heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions, extreme noise levels, vibration, fumes and/or noxious odors, moving machinery, electrical shock, heights, disease/pathogens, toxic/caustic chemicals.
