Track Laborer
The Belt Railway Company of Chicago (BRC) is hiring Track Laborers to join our team and help keep one of the nation's busiest rail hubs running safely and efficiently. If you enjoy hands-on, physical work outdoors and take pride in a job well done, this could be a great fit.
What You'll Do
As part of a track maintenance crew, you'll help maintain, repair, and replace ties, switches, rails, and ballast using hand tools and hand-operated equipment. Day-to-day work includes:
- Operating a rail saw to cut rail to specified lengths
- Drilling holes through rails for bolt insertion, using hand or power drills
- Using a spike maul or jackhammer to drive spikes and secure rail to ties
- Using a track wrench to tighten or loosen joint bolts connecting rail sections
Shifts are variable and assigned based on seniority. This is a safety-sensitive, construction-oriented role, and workers must be available for overtime calls 24/7, including weekends and holidays.
What We're Looking For
- Must be 18 years or older
- High school diploma or GED required
- Valid driver's license required
- Able to work full-time and be on-call as needed
- Able to pass a physical exam, background check, and post-offer drug test
A plus, but not required:
- Experience in welding, electrical work, mechanical work, or heavy equipment operation
- Class A CDL
- Prior experience working outdoors
