JOB DESCRIPTION
The Grant Writer supports the museum’s fundraising efforts through the preparation of compelling and timely grant proposals, letters of inquiry, reports, and related materials. Working closely with the Director of Development and key staff, the Grant Writer will focus on securing funding from private and corporate foundations, as well as government entities, to support The Bass’s exhibitions, education programs, and institutional initiatives. This is a part-time, hybrid-friendly role with flexible hours, requiring availability to meet key deadlines and participate in occasional meetings.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Research and identify grant opportunities that align with The Bass’s strategic priorities and funding needs.
- Draft, edit, and finalize grant proposals, letters of inquiry, interim and final reports, and supporting documentation.
- Coordinate with internal teams (curatorial, education, finance, and leadership) to gather necessary information for proposals and reporting.
- Manage a shared grants calendar to track deadlines for submissions and reporting, ensuring timely delivery.
- Ensure accuracy, alignment, and adherence to funder guidelines in all submitted materials.
- Prepare stewardship materials for grant funders, including acknowledgment letters, donor reports, and impact updates.
- Maintain organized records of all grant’s activity, submissions, reports, and related correspondence.
- Support reporting and data collection efforts to communicate the museum’s impact to funders.
- Participate in occasional strategy and planning meetings, as needed, to align grants efforts with overall fundraising goals.
- Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND DESIRED SKILLS
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g. fine arts, project management, arts administration, art history, etc.)
- Work experience in a comparable field such as a gallery, museum, arts non-profit, private collection, etc.
- Wide knowledge of and enthusiasm about contemporary art and museum procedures
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; bilingual preferred, not required; ability to easily communicate with a variety of constituents and stakeholders
- Strong organizational, planning, and research skills
- Ability to research, organize, and maintain file systems
- Ability to work independently and self-directed, exercise creative problem-solving, initiative and good judgment to successfully organize and complete assignments
- Detail-oriented, meticulous, and conscientious in following through on assigned tasks
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and stakeholders
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point) required
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be in good physical condition with the capability to effectively use and operate various items of office equipment
- Must be able to move moderately heavy objects (35lbs.), bend, stoop, walk, climb stairs, stand, and sit for extended periods of time
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends
