Role Overview


The Assistant Director of Health Services is a seasonal clinical leadership role responsible for supporting the daily operations of the Health Center and ensuring high-quality diabetes care across camp.


This individual plays a critical role in supervising health staff, supporting real-time diabetes management, and serving as a bridge between medical, program, and camper experience teams.


You’ll operate in a fast-paced, team-based environment where clinical skill, adaptability, and strong communication are essential.


Key Responsibilities


Health Center Operations


Support daily management of the Health Center to ensure safe, efficient operations

Coordinate schedules for health staff (RNs, medical assistants, volunteers)

Oversee medical records, medication administration logs, and incident reporting

Support inventory management and organization of medical supplies

Diabetes Management


Provide hands-on support for Type 1 diabetes care, including insulin dosing, pump site changes, and CGM troubleshooting

Assist in developing and implementing individualized care plans

Monitor BG/CGM trends and escalate concerns to senior medical staff

Deliver direct clinical care and guidance to campers and staff

Leadership & Supervision


Help train, supervise, and mentor seasonal health staff and volunteers

Provide diabetes education and support to non-medical camp staff

Model best practices in both clinical care and camper interaction

Camper & Family Support


Serve as a health advocate for campers’ physical and emotional well-being

Communicate with families as needed throughout the camp experience

Support check-in and check-out processes, including medical review

Emergency Preparedness


Assist in managing medical situations and coordinating with external providers when needed

Ensure adherence to established emergency protocols

Qualifications


Required


Active RN license (Massachusetts license required; compact or out-of-state nurses encouraged to apply early to allow time for MA licensure)

Minimum 2 years nursing experience; leadership experience preferred

Familiarity with Type 1 diabetes management (pumps, CGMs, insulin, carb counting)

CPR and First Aid certification

Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented, residential environment

Preferred


Experience as a school nurse, pediatric nurse, or travel nurse

Experience in camp, residential, or youth settings

Personal or professional connection to Type 1 diabetes

Work Environment & Schedule


Live on-site for the full program duration (housing and meals provided)

Schedule includes extended hours, evenings, and weekends typical of residential camp settings

Time off is built into staff schedules to ensure sustainability across the season
