Community Educator
Job Summary
This position is for a Community Educator for a substance use prevention coalition (Metro Phoenix Partners in Prevention) that operates under “The Barbell Saves Project.”
The Community Educator will support the goals of Metro Phoenix Partners in Prevention Coalition by working with community partners to explore, strategize, and implement substance prevention across the designated zip codes (85021, 85023, 85029, 85051, 85053). This position will work a statewide team of partner organizations.
Essential Job Functions
- Effectively and professionally provides implements the SPORT PPW curriculum in elementary, middle and high schools as well as summer/community programs.
- Assist in meeting deliverables of this grant.
- Assist in planning community service activities and/or provide alternate activities for youth.
- Collaboratively works with various organizations to work towards the goal of reducing youth substance use.
- Effectively coordinates and facilitates meetings, discussions, training and technical assistance to MPPIP staff, volunteers, and community partners.
- Thoroughly assesses assets and gaps in services for families and youth.
- Update all related reporting within 24 hours of all events, workshops, presentations, conferences, etc.
- Actively participates in monthly coalition meetings.
- Has the ability to network and communicate with partner organizations.
- Effectively and professionally represents Metro Phoenix Partners in Prevention Coalition’s efforts to stakeholders, coalitions, and committees statewide, maintaining alignment with MPPIP core values.
- Provide Spanish interpretation and Spanish presentations (if applicable).
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience Qualifications
- GED or High School Diploma
- Minimum of three years of professional experience focused on services for children and/or families is required.
- Superior organizational skills: ability to manage multiple deadlines with focused attention is required.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups and effectively across agencies and disciplines is required.
- Excellent public speaking, meeting facilitation, and respectful and effective oral and written communication skills are required.
- Ability to work independently and make significant decisions with guidance from the Director.
- Computer literacy and familiarity with Microsoft Office software (e.g. excel, word, publisher, OneDrive, etc.), Teams technology, and Google suite products is required.
Preferred Education and Experience Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (IE: Social work, behavioral health, child and family development, teaching etc)
- Knowledge of issues related to racial equity, historical trauma, rural equity, poverty, child development, and service access in Arizona.
- Program development experience at a state, community, or organization-wide level.
- Skills in data collection and interpretation.
- Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license and be able to travel in-state.
- Must have a current Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card or obtain one within 15 days of hire.
- Coalition/Prevention Specific Training (will be required within 3 months of hire)
- Substance Abuse Prevention Skills Training (SAPST), or designated equivalent training

- Data Driven Decision Making In Prevention
- Suicide Awareness and Prevention Training
- Trauma Informed Prevention
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Approximately 30-50% of work time is spent at a desk using a computer and telephone.
- Must be able to ambulate around office or off-site venues either on feet or with an assistive device.
- Typical office and indoor training venues are temperature-controlled, with occasional outdoor events.
- Must be able to effectively communicate in person, by phone, and electronically.
- Duties may include lifting items up to 50 pounds.
Reports to: Director
Status: Part time, up to 15 hours per week, Contract-1099 with the option for more hours as funding allows.
Pay: $25-30/hour DOE
