Role summary: A hands-on leader responsible for daily manufacturing operations and custom fabrication in a custom millwork and cabinet shop. Focus areas include CNC programming, wood selection, in-house finishing, and on-time delivery of commercial cabinets and bespoke woodwork. Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, and Microsoft 365) are essential.

 

Location: Bellevue, WA (onsite)

Employment type: Full-time

Position Overview

 

Lead and manage the manufacturing floor, overseeing the transition of architectural millwork from raw materials to finished products for commercial cabinets and custom residential cabinets.

Ensure high-quality outcomes through stringent quality control and timely delivery.

Collaborate cross-functionally with project managers, installers, and countertop fabrication leads to align on design intent, materials, and schedules.

 

Key Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • Production Oversight
  • Direct daily shop-floor operations; optimize workflows from raw lumber and plywood to completed products.
  • Monitor production schedules and adjust as needed to meet project timelines.

 

Quality Control

  • Enforce strict quality standards for solid wood components, veneers, hardware, and finishes.
  • Approve finished goods for delivery and installation readiness.

 

Schedule Management

  • Coordinate production workflows to ensure commercial cabinets and custom residential cabinets are completed and delivered on time.
  • Track milestones, reprioritize as necessary, and communicate changes to stakeholders.

 

Team Leadership

  • Train, mentor, and supervise carpenters, joiners, and finishing managers; foster a safe, high-performing shop environment.
  • Champion Lean manufacturing and 6S principles to improve efficiency and reduce waste.

 

Resource & Tech Allocation

  • Optimize plant operating costs by maintaining and utilizing tools like state-of-the-art CNC machinery.
  • Allocate labor and equipment effectively to meet project requirements while preserving safety.

 

Cross-Department Collaboration

  • Work directly with project managers, installers, and stone fabrication leads to synchronize custom cabinetry with related countertop projects.
  • Clearly communicate design intent, material selections, and production constraints across teams.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

Experience

  • 5 to 10 years in furniture production, custom cabinetry, or architectural millwork.
  • Proven track record of delivering high-quality custom wood products on schedule.

 

Technical Knowledge

  • Deep understanding of solid woods, veneers, laminates, hardware, and fasteners.

Knowledge of finishes, staining, and protective coatings.

 

Reading Plans

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, shop drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).

 

Software & Systems

  • Proficiency in production software and ERP systems.
  • Very strong computer skills with emphasis on Microsoft Word and Microsoft Outlook; familiarity with other Microsoft 365 tools is a plus.
  • Experience with CNC programming and shop software is a plus.

 

Leadership & Principles

  • Demonstrated ability in team management, goal setting, and implementing lean manufacturing or 6S principles.
