The Cooperative Restraining Order Clinic (CROC) (a fiscally sponsored project of the Justice & Diversity Center of the Bar Association of San Francisco) currently has an opportunity for a Bilingual Client Advocate to become part of our team.

 

About CROC:

CROC empowers domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking survivors in San Francisco to understand their legal rights and options, and we provide free legal services to help survivors enforce and protect those rights. CROC operates as a collaborative supported by four member agencies: Asian Pacific Islander Legal Outreach; Bay Area Legal Aid; the Justice & Diversity Center of The Bar Association of San Francisco; and W.O.M.A.N., Inc. Our office is located in the Inner Mission District of San Francisco.

 

About the Job:

Bilingual Client Advocates are integral members of CROC’s staff, with primary responsibility for client intake and referral. Client Advocates perform trauma-informed, survivor-centered intakes; maintain ongoing communication with sexual assault, domestic violence, and stalking survivors; provide interpretation for client meetings; and provide administrative support to CROC projects. The Client Advocate will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Working as a team with other CROC staff members in our Marsy’s Rights project and our Restraining Order Legal Services program
  • Answering phone calls
  • Performing client intakes over the phone and in person
  • Providing crisis intervention, criminal legal system orientation, and resource and referral counseling
  • Interpreting in client meetings
  • Accompanying clients to meetings and hearings
  • Client Advocates may also be assigned to other responsibilities as they arise, including community outreach and the researching of social service referrals.

 

In-Person Work Schedule:

This is a full-time, in-person position (35 hours per week).

This position will be required to accompany clients to in-person hearings occasionally in San Francisco Superior Court.

 

Education and Experience:

  1. At least 1 year of direct client experience working with survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and stalking
  2. Undergraduate degree in field related to this position preferred but not required

 

Qualifications:

  1. Bilingual English / Spanish (verbal and written fluency) (Spanish/English bilingualism is a requirement for this position, and candidates who are not bilingual cannot be considered for this position.)
  2. Ability to interpret between Spanish and English for client meetings
  3. Outstanding communication skills to interact effectively and professionally with diverse populations and clients in crisis and to work calmly and effectively with callers and drop-in clients
  4. Ability to work under pressure while managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced team-oriented environment
  5. Highly organized, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and collaboratively with a team
  6. Proficiency with standard office software and computing, and the ability to learn and adapt to new systems
