The Bank of Southside Virginia (BSV) is seeking an experienced banking professional to serve as a Senior Branch Leader – Operations. This senior-level position is responsible for leading branch operations with a strong focus on regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, risk management, employee development, and exceptional customer service.
The Senior Branch Leader – Operations oversees a complex branch environment while also serving as a trusted operational resource and mentor to branch leaders throughout the retail network. This position works closely with the Director of Retail Banking and the Director of Retail Training & Operations to strengthen internal controls, improve operational consistency, develop employees, and support the bank’s overall goals.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Branch Operations and Compliance
- Oversee daily branch operations and ensure efficient, accurate, and compliant performance.
- Maintain expert knowledge of BSV products, services, systems, policies, and procedures.
- Ensure the branch consistently follows all regulatory requirements, internal controls, and bank policies.
- Identify operational weaknesses and recommend process or policy improvements to senior management.
- Ensure monthly and quarterly branch responsibilities are completed accurately and on time.
- Conduct required teller drawer and cash audits.
- Manage controllable branch expenses and support overall cost efficiency.
- Delegate responsibilities effectively to maintain a productive and well-organized workflow.
- Independently resolve complex operational and customer-related issues.
- Assist other Branch Leaders in researching and resolving operational concerns.
- Maintain awareness of competitor products and services to address customer questions and objections effectively.
Leadership and Employee Development
- Lead by example and promote a culture of professionalism, accountability, collaboration, and service excellence.
- Provide regular coaching, feedback, and support to branch employees.
- Serve as a mentor and operational resource for other Branch Leaders.
- Train and onboard newly hired Branch Leaders.
- Assist with the overall training of new retail employees and recommend improvements to training programs.
- Support the Retail Administration Team in meeting departmental goals.
- Serve as a key resource when members of the Retail Administration Team are unavailable.
- Collaborate with other Branch Leaders to resolve challenges and achieve shared objectives.
- Support employee development, career advancement, and succession planning.
Customer and Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with customers.
- Promote a customer-first culture throughout the branch.
- Ensure customers receive accurate, personalized, and consistent service.
- Resolve escalated customer concerns with professionalism, sound judgment, and empathy.
- Partner with Business Development Officers and Branch Relationship Officers to strengthen existing relationships and identify appropriate growth opportunities.
- Ensure the branch supports the bank’s sales, service, referral, and relationship-building objectives.
Community Engagement
- Represent BSV professionally as a community Brand Ambassador.
- Participate in bank-sponsored community events.
- Encourage branch employees to become actively involved in their communities.
- Identify opportunities for community involvement, partnerships, and financial education outreach.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior banking experience with significant knowledge of retail branch operations.
- Previous branch management, supervisory, or comparable leadership experience.
- Strong understanding of banking regulations, operational controls, audit readiness, cash management, and risk mitigation.
- Demonstrated ability to research and independently resolve complex operational and customer issues.
- Experience coaching, training, and developing employees and other leaders.
- Strong knowledge of consumer banking products and services.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong customer service, relationship-building, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and consistently demonstrate sound judgment and integrity.
- Proficiency with banking systems, digital platforms, and standard business software.
- Availability to assist other branches or leaders when operational needs arise.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional banking education, professional certifications, or a college degree are preferred.
