The Process Engineer directs and coordinates activities supporting all phases of process improvement (yield, cycle time, etc.) equipment installation qualification, and provides guidance with process documentation (work instructions, training, etc.). Receives transfer of new process development by ensuring the appropriate transfer criteria is met/implemented. They are also responsible for many different assignments regarding manufacturing; they may design, optimize and oversee. The Process Engineer reports to the Manufacturing Operations Manager.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create detailed work instructions and visual aids to maintain acceptable production productivity and quality standards
- Estimate production set up and run times, material costs, and perform time studies to provide cost analysis
- Propose, sponsor and lead projects that will improve manufacturing performance, reduce costs, improve yields, or reduce cycle time using Lean tools. (analyzing work flow, space requirements and equipment layout)
- Setup cell manufacturing to minimize setup time and to facilitate increased assembly reaction time to meet customer needs.
- Assist in designing testing methods to determine process capabilities, standards, and validate process requirements.
- Participate in value stream mapping exercises to determine and define business improvement areas.
- Work with plant safety and engineering groups to ensure all concepts meet plant safety requirements.
- Create and maintain production data and Routings (Bills of Operations)
- Assist in the setup of machines and equipment within production areas. To include: selection, set-up, start-up (including programming)
- Assist with SMED activities; may include designing jigs or fixtures for equipment.
- Train supervisors and team leaders in required tasks to new products and/or modifications.
- Support continuous improvement and shop cleanliness utilizing 5S.
- Coordinate TPM activities such as: preventive maintenance; collection of data through PM’s, participate in maintenance planning, coordinating planned work outages, and continuously improving the maintenance planning and execution process.
- Assists with Behavior Based Safety Program.
- Make every effort to focus on doing-it-right to make sure the customer is happy or satisfied with our units
- Provide value to our customers by using Lean tools and concepts to identify and eliminate waste in all forms (scrap/rework, transportation, motion, waiting, inventory, over production, over processing, and under-utilization of people). Uses systemic thinking by seeing processes from end to end and works to challenge the status quo to eliminate the root cause of problems. Is involved in individual and/or team activities that involve using Lean tools and concepts to improve the flow of information and material.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to perform 5S activities which include applying tape to floors (on hands and knees) periodically.
- Must be able to do computer work (sitting or standing) for extended periods of time
- Must be able to walk/stand for extended periods of time
- Must be able to lift/carry 25 lbs.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- BS Degree in Engineering preferred
- Experience with Microsoft Office
- Self-starter who is able to meet expectations with minimal supervision
- Strong organizational skills – able to plan and prioritize multiple tasks/projects
- Detail oriented and strong communication skills
- Highly motivated, results oriented, customer focused, with a high commitment level
- Excellent listening, interpretation and reasoning skills required
- Must have demonstrated experience with Continuous Improvement Tools
- Work schedule can exceed 40 hours when required.
