What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pastry Prep - Cake Builder/Dessert Finisher position at The Baked Lab?
Pay: $16/hr
Must be available Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday’s mid-day/afternoon, with potential for additional hours on Saturday mornings
About the Baked Lab:
Baked Lab is a creative pastry studio on Madison’s east side, specializing in modern takes on classic baked goods, a vibrant wedding business, and community-centered baking workshops. We’re committed to inclusivity, equity, and bringing people together through exceptional pastries.
Our shop is fun, inclusive, and hard working.
We are looking to hire a part-time individual to help with stacking/crumb-coating cakes, prepping and finishing desserts for the case and catering orders, and decorating our individual sized cakes. This individual will act in a vital role in the studio including the following responsibilities, but not limited to.
Primary Responsibilities
- Making and working with Swiss meringue buttercream
- Stacking, Filling and Crumb Coating cakes
- Managing our in-house dessert finishings/filling our case
- Managing all “Shooter” Production
- Packaging cakes and desserts
- Dishes and kitchen cleaning tasks
- Maintaining tidiness of workstations
Required Skills & Character Traits

- Ability to take feedback constructively
- Self-motivation
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Ability to lift 50lbs
- You should be punctual, responsible, committed and willing to learn
- The ability to work independently and as a team
- Passion for the food and pastry industries
- An interest in the visual arts of all kinds (painting, sculpture, fashion, textile design, etc), a plus
Recommended Prior Educational / Work Experience
- Cake Decorating experience preferred but willing to train the right candidate.
