What are the responsibilities and job description for the Line Cook position at The Backyard Aiken?
Kitchen Help / Line Cook
(Live Fire • Grill Rats • Food Truck Folks Welcome)
Location: Aiken, SC
Schedule: Full-time & Part-time
Pay: Competitive. Depends on what you bring to the table.
What This Is
This is not a polished stainless-steel assembly line.
We cook over live fire, open grills, and hot metal. Some days you’re running the line. Some days you’re prepping, cleaning, hauling, or jumping in where you’re needed. It’s real kitchen work, not a single-station babysitting gig.
If you’ve ever loved:
- food trucks
- backyard pit builds
- grill competitions
- working with fire instead of buttons
You’ll feel at home here.
What You’ll Actually Do
- Cook on a live fire grill, flat top, and prep stations
- Help wherever the kitchen needs help (utility work is part of it)
- Prep food, clean down, reset for the next push
- Keep things safe, clean, and moving
- Work shoulder-to-shoulder with a small crew
- Handle busy services without melting down
Who This Is For
- Line cooks who don’t mind getting dirty
- Grill masters who know fire isn’t just “high” or “low”
- Food truck folks who are used to wearing every hat
- People who’d rather do than talk about it
Experience helps, but work ethic matters more.
Who This Is NOT For
- People who need one task and one task only
- Anyone scared of heat, smoke, or physical work
- Folks who disappear when it’s time to clean
No shame. Just not your place.
Why People Like Working Here
- No corporate nonsense
- Small team where effort is noticed
- Real cooking with real tools
- Learn skills you won’t get in a chain kitchen
- Opportunity to grow as we grow
The Fine Print
- Nights and weekends are part of the deal
- Fast-paced, physical work
- You’ll wear more than one hat in a shift
- Show up on time. Pull your weight. Clean your station.
