Job PurposeThe Healthcare Education Manager will work closely with the Director of Support and Education and the Vice President of Mission Services to develop and implement education initiatives that address the needs of healthcare professionals working in diverse disciplines and settings.
Job SummaryThe Healthcare Education Manager is directly responsible for the planning, development and delivery of education initiatives and programs to increase outreach, education and support of health professionals who provide care and services for those impacted by FTD. They will work collaboratively with the Education Coordinator and AFTD’s support, volunteer and advocacy teams as well as multiple external stakeholders. The efforts of the Healthcare Education Manager will increase understanding of FTD disorders, advance early and accurate diagnosis and improve care and services for those impacted.
FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Job Functions

Managing Professional Education Initiatives: Increase awareness of FTD among healthcare professionals and develop educational materials that support early, accurate diagnosis and high quality care. Oversee the creation and distribution of Partners in FTD Care and other educational products that expand clinical understanding of FTD disorders, research opportunities, clinical presentation, diagnosis, and care. Collaborate with the AFTD communications team to produce high quality branded resources and strengthen marketing for both existing and new education initiatives. With the Education Coordinator, implement quality assurance evaluation of initiatives, maintain current and accurate data and complete relevant outcome reporting.

Implementing Training Initiatives: Collaborate with external stakeholders, including the AFTD Medical Advisory Council, to develop new CME webinars that advance FTD diagnosis, support, and care. Coordinate, develop, and evaluate educational presentations and training to meet the needs of healthcare professionals. Engage members of the FTD community, including persons living with FTD, care partners, and family members, to incorporate first person experiences into educational content. Present in person and virtual FTD education sessions to lay and professional audiences. Provide training and oversight to AFTD volunteers involved in healthcare professional education.

Relationship Building: Strengthen AFTD’s engagement with health professionals by applying clinical knowledge of FTD disorders, diagnostic pathways, and dementia care best practices to outreach, networking, education, and training activities. Represent AFTD at national association and regional dementia focused conferences. Represent AFTD on committees that advance dementia care and services, in partnership with professional associations and other nonprofits. Collaborate with the Director of Support and Education to support management of the AFTD Center of Excellence, cultivating relationships with FTD clinical leaders and advancing shared efforts to promote early diagnosis, interdisciplinary care, and provider education for all, including in rural and diverse communities.

Staff Management: Provide ongoing supervision, support, and problem solving assistance to the Education Coordinator in the fulfillment of their role. Manage the flow of work within their assigned responsibilities in support of department goals.
Other Job Functions
- Participate in the agenda planning and management of speakers for AFTD’s Education Conference.
- Contribute updates and expansion of AFTD’s website content for healthcare professionals.
- Assist in refining AFTD’s professional education strategy and other strategic planning as requested.
- Contribute to Board committee meetings as requested to keep informed of education initiatives.
- Conscientiously follow AFTD policies and practices and take care of organizational property.
- Travel for organizational meetings and events as needed.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has supervisory responsibilities for the following role:
- Education Coordinator
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Social Work, Nursing or another relevant clinical field; Master’s degree preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working with cognitive / behavioral impairment or rare neurodegenerative diseases
- Current knowledge of person-centered dementia care practices, trends and needs of the aging services and long-term care systems.
- Demonstrated experience in the design, development and implementation of training programs and tools
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to relate with all aspects of the FTD community including staff, volunteers, caregivers, persons diagnosed, clinicians and researchers required
- Strong attention to detail and time management skills; ability to collaborate on multiple concurrent projects with a range of stakeholders
- Comfort with public speaking
- Proven ability to maintain confidentiality
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite; particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Experience with database management and report generation
- Ability to approach work with a pleasant and professional demeanor
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable to work on a wide variety of projects; lending support where needed
