Superintendent

The Associated Construction Company
Hartford, CT Full Time
POSTED ON 5/15/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 6/13/2026

Company Description

Associated Construction Company (ACC) was incorporated in New London, Connecticut, on August 4, 1942, by Angelo J.M. Giardini. The firm was originally established as a military defense contractor, constructing critical base facilities for the U.S. Navy, including work at the submarine base in Groton, Connecticut. As regional demand evolved, ACC expanded into residential construction to support post-war housing needs.

In 1946, ACC relocated its headquarters to Hartford, Connecticut, positioning the company to better serve a growing and diverse client base across the state. From this central hub, ACC built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality construction across a wide range of sectors, including residential housing, commercial office and retail facilities, industrial plants, healthcare environments, and water and wastewater treatment infrastructure.

Leadership continuity has played a key role in the company’s long-term success. Thomas M. Giardini, son of founder Angelo Giardini, led the firm as President for over 30 years until his passing in September 2015. Under his leadership, ACC significantly expanded its construction management capabilities and strengthened its presence in the private sector, including work on broadcast, data, and Life Sciences facilities for national and international clients.

Today, ACC operates as a third-generation company. Current President Joseph Jankowski joined the firm in 1984, brought in by the founder Angelo J.M. Giardini. His time at ACC exposed him to complex technical projects, which imparted a high level of skill, experience, and management techniques. During his tenure, the organization has evolved into a modern, team-driven structure with strong leadership across all departments. ACC has since experienced substantial growth while maintaining its commitment to technical excellence, collaboration, and consistent project delivery. The company has also been recognized as a “Best Place to Work” in Connecticut for two consecutive years, reflecting its strong culture and dedication to its people.

Who you are

You are passionate about construction, and you want to advance your construction career with company that provides empowered opportunities. You are an outstanding general contractor superintendent. You know how to lead construction projects by not over stacking the work, planning to milestones, smartly deconflicting resources, lining up near term work, informing teams, and then proactively driving sub-contractors. You are not a yeller. You are firm in resolve but know how to vary your communication style to get the most out of people. You build trust. You lead by frequently walking the job, inspecting the work quality, chatting with tradesmen, checking and promoting safety, understanding the work progress, and engaging the sub-contractors to be ready for their next work tasks. Due to your leadership, you have very few “bad sub-contractors” because they rise to your standards. You are a team player. You easily collaborate with the Project Manager, push and pull information with stakeholders, and professionally work with senior leadership.

You are an adept learner who can close the gap in preferred experience with deep knowledge in water and wastewater treatment facilities. If you don’t have that preferred background, then you have a talent for attention to detail with mechanical equipment and relative experience in one of the following: water and wastewater treatment plants/facilities, towers, tanks, pump stations, instrumentation, large HVAC, complex electrical, large equipment installation, heavy and large road or concrete work, etc. (or similar construction).

If this is you, or if this is mostly you and you have the goals, self-drive, humility, loyalty, and coachability to rise to this high standard, then you are the right fit for The Associated Construction Company. You can have an amazing journey here.
