ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Audio Visual Solutions Department provides subject expertise and delivers trusted, creative, innovative and functional engineered audiovisual solutions from concept ideation to implementation with a strategic approach to audiovisual upgrades and maintenance for long-term success. Our team is proactive, responsive, courteous, collaborative while providing clear and efficient communication in support of our colleagues, partners, and the audiovisual solutions our team integrates.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Audio Visual Solutions, Audio Visual Freelance Technician will assist and collaborate with other internal and external stakeholders at the museum to fulfill all technical audiovisual requirements for live and produced events and/or programming and audio visual and time-based media exhibitions as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Audio Visual Event Support: Under the direction of the Director of AVS, AV Events Manager, and Lead AV Technicians, will assist in the delivery, setup, and operation of audio, lighting, and visual presentation/ projection systems and video content capture equipment to support all live and/or virtual events and performances.

Integration Support: Under the direction of the Director of AVS, AV Installations Manager, and Lead AV Technicians, will assist in the fulfillment of exhibition installation and deinstallation support while adhering to best practices and museum standards with aspects of design, implementation, and installation of internal audiovisual exhibition integration solutions according to the exhibition schedule.

Troubleshoot and Maintain: Troubleshoot existing audiovisual equipment and systems in the museum. Responsible for upkeep, organization, cleanliness, and maintenance of equipment, technician booths, control areas, and equipment storage. Track, report and support installed equipment inventory. Verify accuracy of inventory before and after events

Collaborate: Provide consultation, technically orient and assist, as well as, interact professionally with departments, clients, external and event representatives

Post Event Production and Archival Process: Provide client or event requester with recorded media documentation of the event. Assist in the process of digitally archiving all formats of recorded material as needed for special projects.

Research and Analyze: Maintain understanding of current and new audiovisual technology and research developing technology as it pertains to our greater departmental role at the museum.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Prolonged periods standing and sitting occur; must be able to stand up to 90% of the duration of an integration and sit in a stationary position 75% of the time during administrative and post-production related duties.
  • Frequently moves audiovisual equipment weighing up to 50 pounds across campus for various auditoriums, classrooms and events needs.
  • Frequently ascends/descends ladders, scaffolding and/or lifts to adjust lighting and audiovisual equipment.
  • Frequently positions self to maintain audiovisual equipment, including under counters and in or behind racks in audiovisual closets.
  • Frequently operates a computer and other audiovisual equipment.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, ability to adjust focus, and the ability to sustain prolonged visual concentration.
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with colleagues about audiovisual equipment and exhibition details. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience using and/or professional knowledge of past, current, and cutting edge audiovisual technology for live events and performances.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills are required
  • Strong computer skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Suite, SmartSheets, Jira, Q-Lab, Adobe Premiere Pro, Pro Tools, and Audition or similar audio editing software.
  • Minimum 1-2 years experience in live events and/or audiovisual services in the live arts, higher education, and/or a museum setting with knowledge of contemporary art practices using media and/or audiovisual technology. Preference will be given to candidates who possess stage, theater and/ or projection, sound mixing experience for live events.
