Staff Accountant
St. Thomas Seminary Corporation – Bloomfield, CT
Under direct supervision of the Executive Director of Finance of the St. Thomas Seminary Corporation and related Archdiocesan corporations, the Staff Accountant is responsible for the maintenance of necessary lead schedules and supporting work papers related to the preparation of financial reports, reconciliation of certain general ledger accounts and bank statements, and work necessary to support various audits, as assigned.
In addition, there will be responsibility for the processing, control and recording of journal entries, as needed, to the general ledger. Further, may assist with supporting various IRS tax reporting responsibilities such as Form 1099 NEC reporting. And have the ability to participate in special projects as assigned by the Executive Director of Finance or Chief Financial Officer.
Additional duties will include the timely and accurate reconciliation of selected general ledger accounts for the Hartford Roman Catholic Diocesan Corporation and its offices, agencies and affiliated corporations; responsibility for the timely and accurate reconciliation of assigned bank statements; assistance with month-end, quarter and year end closing process to include, but not limited to, preparing necessary general journal entries and reconciliations and assisting the Executive Director of Finance in identifying and researching significant budget variances and unusual transactions.
Qualified candidates must possess a BS Degree in Accounting or Finance, with relevant work experience required. And, five or more years of experience in a non-profit work environment, is preferred.
Candidates must have the computer knowledge and system building to identify opportunities to use technology to improve efficiency and quality of work product and have the use of appropriate and available information technology applications (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets, E-mail, on-line banking). An understanding of E-commerce and a proficiency in Microsoft applications, especially Excel and accounting software, QuickBooks (financial Edge NXT), is a plus.
