DIRECT CARE STAFF/VAN DRIVER
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Direct Care Staff/Van Driver is responsible for providing direct care to clients and assists in training clients in the areas of self-help, daily living, socialization, leisure, basic academic skills, human growth and development, and motor and communication skills. The Direct Care Staff/Van Driver is also responsible for the supervision, instruction, data collection and transportation of assigned clients to and/or from the facility.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Direct Care Staff
- Supervise work and daily activities of assigned clients. Assist in training activities specified in implementation plans and activity schedule.
- Ensure clients are engaged in activities that are meaningful to him/her (Employment, therapeutic, etc.). Instruct clients in skill areas when appropriate.
- Implement client’s Individual Program Plan.
- Assist in evaluation and goal setting for clients.
- Maintain client file including production, attendance and other data as required. Input client data in computer program as required. Specifically, Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Adhere to Bill of Rights for Developmentally Disabled.
- Assist Workshop Supervisor in production planning and time studies of contract work.
- Maintain quality control to ensure all work meets product and service specifications.
- Complete daily observation sheets, log entries and daily reports.
- Report client illness, unusual physical condition or behaviors to supervisor. Document as required.
- Lift and properly position clients.
- Change, launder and maintain client clothing as necessary.
- Assist in serving snacks and meals and feeding clients.
- Provide direct care and supervision to clients. Monitor client activity and assure that all regulations relative to safety, fire, health, disaster and/or evacuation standards are observed.
- Attend scheduled training.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Van Driver
- Transport individuals who are served by The Arc of Volusia to and/or from the agency.
- Make recommendations for vehicle maintenance to the Facility Manager such as brakes, tires and inspections being due.
- Make sure all individuals/passengers are secured in a seat belt.
- Check the fire extinguisher and first aid kit regularly.
- Maintain daily mileage and attendance log.
- Reports all accidents and vehicle damage immediately to their supervisor and/or executive staff.
- Van drivers are to stay with the van until ALL individuals/passengers have exited the vehicle.
- Understand how to redirect client behaviors on the van.
- Thoroughly read and comprehend The Arc of Volusia’s Vehicle Use Policy.
- Complete other duties as necessary.

EMPLOYEE REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum one-year experience working with individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities preferred.
- Must have a valid Florida Driver’s License or be willing to obtain one within the first 30 days of hire if current license is issued from out of state.
- Must have a clean driving record, have been driving for a minimum of three years, and be insurable.
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be able to pass a level 2 background screening as required by regulation.
- Must pass a drug screening.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to position and move individuals.
- Must be able to sit in a vehicle for about 2-3 hours at a time.
