Job Purpose:The position provides support services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in community-based settings, including transportation as required. The role is responsible for assisting individuals in accessing and participating in their communities in a positive, respectful, and empowering manner.
The position supports individuals in developing life skills, social skills, independence, and community engagement through meaningful activities that promote personal growth, inclusion, and contribution. Services are delivered in accordance with organizational standards to enhance quality of life, strengthen community connections, and support each individual’s strengths, goals, and abilities.
General Duties and Responsibilities
This position provides direct support to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in community-based environments, including public community centers where services are delivered in full view of the public. Staff are expected to model professional, respectful, and inclusive behavior at all times.
Direct Support and Community Engagement
- Provide direct support to adults with developmental disabilities in community settings.
- Facilitate participation in meaningful activities such as classes, volunteer opportunities, recreational programs, social events, and community-based learning experiences.
- Identify and create opportunities for individuals to learn new skills and actively participate in their communities.
- Support skill development in communication, social interaction, self-advocacy, and daily living.
- Promote choice, dignity, inclusion, and self-determination in all services.
Teaching, Mentorship, and Role Modeling
- Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating appropriate social behavior, problem-solving, and willingness to try new activities.
- Mentor individuals by teaching new skills and encouraging confidence, independence, and personal growth.
- Maintain a positive, supportive, and engaging environment that encourages participation and learning.
Safety, Supervision, and Support
- Maintain health and safety during all activities while encouraging independence.
- Follow all Individual Instruction and Support Plans (IISP), Person-Centered Service Plans, and organizational procedures.
- Collaborate with staff to address behavioral challenges and mediate conflicts in a respectful and supportive manner.
Communication and Professional Conduct
- Communicate professionally with families, transportation providers, managers, staff, and community partners.
- Represent The Arc of Tri-Cities in a professional manner in public settings.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, DSHS/DDA requirements, and agency policies.
Transportation and Documentation
- Transport individuals using The Arc of Tri-Cities vehicles in accordance with agency policies and safety requirements.
- Document services accurately and timely in compliance with DSHS/DDA standards and agency procedures.
Qualifications and Educational Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Ability to pass a Washington State DSHS background check and any other required screenings.
- Ability to meet Ben Franklin Transit (BFT) and The Arc of Tri-Cities driving requirements, including:
- Minimum of five years of driving experience, and
- At least three years with a clean driving record.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform essential job functions safely, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in community settings and serve as a positive role model and mentor.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and community engagement skills.

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 24.0 – 29.0 per week
