Role Description Therapeutic Foster Parents provide a stable, nurturing, and structured home environment for children and youth with behavioral, emotional, or developmental needs. This role involves supporting daily routines such as meals, school preparation, transportation to appointments, and engagement in recreational and educational activities. Responsibilities include implementing individualized care plans, teaching life skills, modeling positive behaviors, and collaborating with case managers, therapists, and other professionals. Therapeutic Foster Parents document observations, participate in regular team meetings, and follow agency and state guidelines for safety, supervision, and child welfare. The role also requires ongoing communication with The Arc of North Carolina staff and participation in scheduled training and support sessions.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should possess skills to provide therapeutic support in a family setting.
  • Candidates should possess skills in maintaining safety, structure, and advocacy for children’s best interests.
  • Candidates should possess willingness to complete required pre-service and ongoing trainings related to trauma-informed care and developmental disabilities.
  • Ability to provide a safe, stable home environment in Southeastern NC and meet state licensing requirements for foster parents.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and conflict management skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with professionals and families.
  • Capacity to manage challenging behaviors with patience, consistency, and respect, and to follow therapeutic and behavioral support plans.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required..
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and ability to pass background checks and any required home inspections.
  • A willing heart to acquire skills and experience with patience, empathy and strength.
