Founded in 1949, The Arc Middlesex County is one of the oldest and most respected organizations working on behalf of people with disabilities. Formed by parents of children with developmental and other disabilities, the agency continues to maintain close connections with families. The Board of Directors consists mainly of parents, guardians, and siblings of people with developmental disabilities. They monitor and direct the organization which is committed to supporting and serving people with developmental disabilities throughout their lifetime. The Arc Middlesex has maintained a stable funding and administrative structure, thereby allowing the agency to grow and meet the changing needs of the people we serve.
Essential Responsibilities
- Assist in program planning by helping to develop, implement, and monitor goals and outcomes with participants. Participate in network meetings, document and report progress toward meeting outcomes.
- If required, administer medication and maintain all documentation related to medication administration in accordance with the guidelines of the Department of Developmental Disabilities (DDD).
- Effectively communicate individual and program issues with supervisor and peers and participate in program planning while working within a team. Communicate effectively in writing and via telephone.
- Attend all staff training and in-services; successfully complete all DDD required training. Assist in the coordination of direct support staff training, including training of new employees.
- Maintain confidentiality of all management and center information and discuss any concerns with The Arc management prior to involving family members, case managers and/or guardians.
- Understand and implement current state licensing rules and regulations, agency policies and procedures and protection of individual participant’s rights.
- Cooperate with The Arc, DHS and DDD (or any appropriate officials) in any inspection or investigation.
- Promote public relations by educating community members about persons with disabilities, advocating for the rights and responsibilities of individuals with developmental disabilities.
- Complete various office tasks and other duties as assigned.
After School Respite Program: All duties listed above in addition to the following:
- Insure safety and well being of each individual under their care and follow emergency procedures as needed.
- Develop, plan and organize activities for After School drop-off program.
- Set up and clean up of program site.
- Assist in implementing goals and objectives for each individual’s ISP by providing direct care.
- Ensure completion of all documentation needed for Medicaid billing.
- Schedule, supervise and evaluate direct support professionals for program.
- Accurately disperse and record all medications as prescribed by a physician.
- Develop and maintain ongoing relationship with parents.
- Maintain all records for program including ISP's and necessary medical forms.
- Ensure the smooth running of the program.
- Assist Direct Support Professionals in the care of participants.
- Provide transportation during program hours.
- Respect the family’s right to privacy and maintain confidentiality.
- To follow the rules of safety at all times and to implement emergency procedures as needed.
- Responsible for other duties assigned by management.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and one year related experience or training.
