The Advocacy & Resource Center is seeking a Habilitation Counselor to provide support and services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a residential setting. This position plays an important role in helping individuals build daily living skills, participate in meaningful activities, and stay connected to their community.
The Habilitation Counselor will support individuals with activities of daily living, household routines, recreational outings, community integration, and other individualized services as appropriate. This role also includes clinical and behavioral support responsibilities, along with daily documentation and participation in planning services and activities.
Responsibilities include: Provide direct support to adults with developmental disabilities in a residential setting
Assist with activities of daily living, household tasks, and community based activities
Support recreational outings and community integration opportunities
Collect data and maintain documentation related to behavioral observations, interventions, and progress toward goals
Conduct structured therapeutic activities
Complete RBT training
Attend psychiatry appointments as needed
Perform additional behavioral support duties as assigned
Complete documentation of daily services prior to leaving each shift
Participate in the planning and provision of activities and services Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Special Education, Social Work, or Sociology required
Six months of full time work experience with the I/DD population preferred
Must be able to bend, twist, kneel, climb stairs or ladders, and lift up to 50 pounds
Clean and valid New York State driver’s license required
Must be proficient in computer documentation
