Mechanical CAD Drafter/Designer/Technologist

The Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State is an integral part of one of the leading research universities in the nation and serves as a University center of excellence in defense science, systems, and technologies with a focus in naval missions and related areas. We are looking for experienced mechanical CAD professionals to join us at our State College, PA, location. The Mechanical and Electrical Design Department at ARL works in collaboration with ARL Research Offices to provide high-quality drafting and 3-D modeling in support of ARL’s mission. The working environment for this role is fully on-site, located in State College, PA, but options may exist for project-dependent ability of hybrid work. We offer a generous relocation package!

You will be responsible to:

• Support mechanical design for R&D programs, collaborating with engineers and support teams
• Create 3D solid models and 2D detail drawings for fabricated parts, assemblies, and COTS components
• Resolve design, material, and component issues
• Manage documentation, archiving, and database entry
• Utilize Teamcenter PLM for configuration management
• Stay current on compliance training (business systems, safety, security)
• Strengthen expertise in CAD software, ASME Y14.5 standards, and design techniques

Requirements include:

• Associate’s degree with 4 years of experience (and up to Bachelor’s degree with 3 years for more senior roles)
• Experience with mechanical systems, CAD software, 2D/3D modeling, and parametric solid models
• Knowledge of layout and design processes

Added bonus for us includes:

• Siemens NX CAD and Teamcenter PLM
• ASME Y14.5 certification or familiarity
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office & Adobe
• Current eligibility for access to classified information at the Secret level or higher and may be subject to a government background investigation to upgrade clearance eligibility, if required

Salary & Benefits

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $61,800 - $102,300.
