SEEKING:
The patriarch of the Wallace family. Dry, cynical, arrogant, witty. A retired university professor in the humanities. Not a particularly warm husband or father. Ready with an ironic quip or pretentious bit of cultural commentary. Something of an alcoholic.
CAROLYN WALLACE: Female, 40s-50s
Unhappily married wife of Evander Wallace. Twin sister of Elizabeth Petti. Obsessed with keeping up social appearances – deep down, a narrow-minded and prejudiced woman. Striving to escape her oppressive marriage, she’s having an affair with her brother-in-law, Charles Petti.
NICK WALLACE: Male, 20s-30s
Son of Evander and Carolyn Wallace. A medical student in New York City. Somewhat neurotic and anxious. Still figuring himself out. Hasn’t come out of the closet to his family – despite currently dating Justin.
ELIZABETH PETTI: Female, 40s-50s
Successful businesswoman (though perhaps through methods of questionable legality...). Elegant, cunning, quick-thinking, resourceful, and self-serving. Unknown to her, her husband Charles is having an affair with her twin sister (Carolyn).
CHARLES PETTI: Male, 40s-50s
Husband of Elizabeth Petti. A vain, opportunistic man – passionately romantic (to a fault). Currently having an affair with his sister-in-law. Something of an obnoxious, oblivious idiot.
ADRIAN PETTI: Male, 20s
Son of Elizabeth and Charles Petti. Naturally good-looking, with a kind of haughty boyish charm and sense of self-possession. Currently in college, and dating Allegra. Curious about the world, and with a slightly rebellious streak.
JUSTIN: Male, 20s
Confident, handsome, fit. Nick’s boyfriend. Very comfortable in his open gay sexuality – flirtatious and very experienced. An actor who works at a bar in Hell’s Kitchen to make ends meet.
ALLEGRA: Female, 20s
Student at Cornell, and Adrian’s girlfriend. Stylish. Something of an aspiring social media influencer. A predilection for astrology, crystals, and other New Age paraphernalia. Pisces.
DETECTIVE CLARKE: Male, 30s-40s
Private investigator, Fairfield County police department. A suave, charming, and cultured man with a genteel air and untraceable vaguely European, aristocratic-sounding accent. Entirely incompetent. He has a penchant for forensic psychopathology.
IRS AGENT: Any gender, 30s-40s
IRS Criminal Investigation special agent tasked with tracking down Mrs. Petti. Blunt, austere, no nonsense, right to the point. Not particularly good at their job.
POLICE SERGEANT: Any gender, 30s-40s
Sergeant in the Fairfield Police Department. Bored with their job and life and just waiting to retire. And then – much to their annoyance – they’re called in to deal with this mess.
