Cake Decorator
Reports to: Lead Decorator / Department Manager
Responsibilities:
- Completes decorated cake orders assigned by Lead Decorator / Department Manager
- Decorates additional cakes and cupcakes for the front display case
- Completes assigned closing/cleaning duties
- Arrives to work on time, appropriately groomed, dressed and ready to work; works all scheduled shifts
- Immediately reports safety hazards and violations

- Operates quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced, time-driven environment, while ensuring consistent, high quality products
- Thorough product knowledge
- Ability to follow directions and established procedures
- Good to strong cake decorating skills
- Strong communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team
- Ability to deliver information in a clear / respectable manner to fellow co-workers and customers
- Ability to meet customer order’s expectations
- Ability to follow directions and procedures; effective time management and organization skills
- Passion for decorating
- Strong work ethic and ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a sense of urgency
Experience: Basic Level - prior decorating skills required
- Ability to smooth ice cakes
- Ability to perform basic icing decorations (roses, balloons, borders, scrollwork)
- Ability to write on cakes (attractive and legible)
- Ability to decorate Kit Cakes
Experience: Advanced Level - additional prior decorating skills considered
- Ability to decorate Flat Cut-out Cakes
- Ability to decorate 3D Sculpted Cakes
- Ability to decorate Simple Tiered Wedding Cakes and Grooms Cakes
- Must be experienced in decorating using fondant
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions:
- Must have the physical ability to carry out the functions of the job
- Standing/walking 7-8 hours (in an 8-hour work day)
- Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting and reaching
- Ability to lift a full sheet cake
- Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals
- Exposure to temperatures: <32°F (freezers), 32-40°F (refrigerators), >90°F
- Ability to work a flexible schedule; Must be available Tues-Sat, and holidays as needed
