Join our dynamic team as a Hospice Intake Specialist, where you will play a vital role in providing compassionate care and support to patients and their families during critical times. You will be the first point of contact for patients entering hospice services, ensuring that all necessary information is collected accurately and efficiently. This position requires a blend of medical knowledge, administrative skills, and a heartfelt commitment to patient service.
What you’ll do
- Conduct thorough intake assessments to gather essential patient information and medical history.
- Verify insurance coverage and benefits, ensuring compliance with Medicare and other payer requirements.
- Review documentation for accuracy, including CPT coding and ICD-10/ICD-9 classifications.
- Utilize various Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, and eClinicalWorks to manage patient data.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to develop comprehensive care plans tailored to individual patient needs.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations while handling sensitive patient information.
- Provide exceptional customer service by addressing patient inquiries and guiding them through the intake process.
- Support the administrative team with clerical tasks such as filing, scheduling appointments, and managing multi-line phone systems.
Basic qualifications
- Proficient in medical terminology and coding practices (CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10).
- Strong computer skills with experience in EHR systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent typing skills with attention to detail for accurate documentation.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both English and another language (bilingual preferred).
Preferred qualifications
- Previous experience in a medical office or hospice setting is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with health information management practices and insurance verification processes.
- Experience with dental terminology or working in a dental clinic is a plus.
