Company Description The ALS Association, founded in 1985, is the only national nonprofit organization dedicated to fighting ALS on every front. The Association advances global research, provides direct assistance to people living with ALS through a nationwide network, and coordinates multidisciplinary care via certified clinical care centers. It also works closely with government partners to influence policies and funding that support the ALS community. The organization is committed to building hope, improving quality of life, and driving progress toward new treatments and a cure. Role Description The Development Manager is a full-time, hybrid role based in the Charleston, South Carolina Metropolitan Area, with the ability to work from home part of the time. This role is responsible for planning and executing fundraising initiatives, including campaigns, events, and donor engagement activities that support the Association’s mission. Day-to-day tasks include managing donor relationships, identifying and cultivating new funding opportunities, preparing proposals and reports, and tracking performance against revenue goals. The Development Manager collaborates closely with program, communications, and finance teams to ensure consistent messaging, efficient processes, and effective stewardship. The position also involves working with volunteers and community partners to strengthen local presence and expand support for people living with ALS and their families.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in fundraising or development, including campaign planning, donor cultivation, and stewardship of individual and corporate supporters.
  • Skills in event coordination and community engagement, with the ability to organize mission-centered events and mobilize volunteers and local partners.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, including clear written and verbal communication and the ability to present to diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in data management and reporting, using CRM or donor databases to track giving, analyze trends, and prepare accurate fundraising reports.
  • Organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to the mission of The ALS Association and to equitable, inclusive, and person-centered practices when working with donors, volunteers, and the ALS community.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (such as Nonprofit Management, Communications, Business, or similar) or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
  • Prior experience in nonprofit development or health-related organizations, and familiarity with the Charleston, South Carolina philanthropic community, is preferred.
