The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is looking for a full-time General Engineer - Advanced Repair NH-0801-03 to work at Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC), Air Force Sustainment Center (AFSC). This federal job offers a rewarding and exciting career with benefits.

2026 Salary Range is $89,508-$138,370 yearly (includes locality).

In this position the selectee will serve as a General Engineer in the AFSC/EN Functional Office as the Science and Engineer Advanced Manufacturing SME for the entire AFSC Center.

Requirements:

- U.S. Citizenship

- Minimum of 3 years of experience in Science & Engineering (S&E)

- Employee must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance as a condition of employment

- Could be subject to random testing for drug use

- Periodic travel for temporary duty (TDY) may be needed to support workload

- Designated as an acquisition position and is covered by the Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP)

- To qualify as an engineer, employee must meet the education and specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards, Group Coverage Qualification Standard for Professional and Scientific Positions: ;br>
Duties:

Serve as the enterprise-wide Subject Matter Expert (SME) and primary technical consultant for Adv Repair technologies including but not limited to Direct Energy Deposition (DED), Cold Spray, and Thermal Spray production equipment and processes to the entire Air Force Sustainment Center (AFSC).

Lead the insertion and application of Advanced Repair technologies for mechanical, aerospace, and other engineering disciplines within the AFSC/EN Advanced Manufacturing and Repair branch.

Coordinate and support all three Air Logistics Complexes to provide recommendations, insights, and knowledge related to the application and utilization of advanced repair technology, championing increased scale and commonality across the AFSC.

Architect, develop, and optimize advanced repair production workflows (e.g., Cold Spray deposition, Thermal Spray coating, DED repair) to maximize throughput, minimize variability, and ensure consistent, aerospace-grade quality

Translate complex engineering requirements into practical reality by developing standardized operating procedures, process controls, and specialized training curricula required for shop floor artisans to safely execute production and repairs.

Serves as a consultant and technical expert to senior subject matter specialists and/or agency officials responsible for broad program operations.

Develops and defines critical technical practices, internal practices and policy for scientist and engineering disciplines.

Serve as AFSC-EN point of contact by applying expert knowledge and mastery of advanced engineering theories, principles, concepts, standards, and methods to ensure assigned projects remain consistent with program objectives, costs, schedules, performance criteria, and existing policies.

Architect, develop, and optimize reverse engineering workflows (e.g., scan-to-CAD, automated inspection, TDP creation) to maximize throughput, minimize variability, and ensure consistent, aerospace-grade quality. Working with PLM efforts and AFRL standardization efforts for Adv Manufacturing TDPs.

Partner directly with Qualification Engineers, Advanced Materials Scientists, and Cognizant Engineering Authorities to ensure machine parameters and process "recipes" consistently yield components meeting strict certification standards.

Evaluate and recommend future capital investments in 3D scanning and metrology equipment, ensuring all procurements and process developments align with strategic goals.

Coordinates special studies on design changes, recommends solutions to technical problems, and recommends plausible engineering approaches.

Accomplish AFSC/EN special projects, taskers, and suspense as directed. Provides status in weekly stand-up meetings with branch.

Support and proliferate the AFSC/EN technology roadmap effort, leading a consortium of Reverse Engineering users and experts in a coordinated effort to include process engineers across each depot, Rapid Sustainment Office (RSO), Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), and various groups within Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC).

Execute staff officer functions and communication to peers, supervisors, and senior Air Force leadership.

Periodic travel (TDY) may be needed to support location projects as well as symposiums and conferences to remain knowledgeable of new capabilities and technologies.

Recruitment Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

- Professional knowledge of engineering and technical management as demonstrated by a Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited College or University. Knowledge of Air Force and AFMC command structure, missions, programs, and organizational relationships.

- Deep, hands-on technical mastery of industrial advanced repair equipment (specifically DED, Cold Spray, and Thermal Spray platforms), with a thorough understanding of how robotics, kinematics, powder/wire feed, gas flow, and thermal dynamics affect final structural integrity and bonding.

- Proven experience working within a heavy manufacturing, aerospace production, or industrial depot environment. You must deeply understand the constraints, realities, and culture of the "shop floor."

- Demonstrated expertise in developing repeatable repair processes, reducing scrap rates, and implementing robust process controls for advanced deposition and spray machinery.

- A strategic mindset with the ability to lead enterprise-wide capability stand-ups rather than just managing isolated projects.

- Highly proficient in writing and speaking effectively to communicate technical and management information with either technical or management personnel.

- Ability to gather, assemble and analyze facts, draw conclusions, and devise solutions to problems.

- Knowledge of Air Force and AFMC command structures, missions, programs, and organizational relationships (knowledge of the AFMC planning, programming, and budgeting system is highly preferred).

- Exceptional written and oral communication skills are required, along with the ability to operate independently, collaborate effectively within a team, and engage with geographically distributed, cross-functional personnel and teams.
