Part-Time (50%) or Full-Time 8th and 9th Grade English Long Term Substitute

Salary: Currently, The Agnes Irwin School is seeking a full-time 8th and 9th Grade English Long Term Substitute teacher, with the potential of staying on beyond the end of the 25-26 school year,beginning January 1, 2025. Successful candidates will be committed to fostering the intellectual and personal growth of students through the mission of The Agnes Irwin School and the Core Values of Striving for Excellence, Leading with Character, Nurturing Passions and Wellbeing, Fostering Trust and Community, and Respecting and Celebrating All.The Ideal Candidate:Will embrace the Agnes Irwin Schools mission to empower each girl to learn, lead, and live a legacy and is committed to the ethos of girls education.Possesses an ability to teach analytical writing, critical thinking, and research skills.Has skills designing and implementing project based learning and experiential curricula.Demonstrates cultural competency and skills engaging with and learning from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences.Has a strong background in many areas of English Language ArtsWill foster the skills necessary for sophisticated and observant literacy, as well as the joy in learning that can sustain a life long love of readingCan develop writing instruction that combines the best of traditional methodologies with an innovative vision of writing in the 21st century.Has interest and/or experience designing interdisciplinary curricula, particularly within the humanities.Regards collaboration as an essential component of professional growth and values working on a team.Is willing and eager to take on significant co-curricular responsibilities outside of the classroom (eg advising, coaching, club advisor, trip lead, etc), and who finds joy in working with middle and high school students.Is willing to engage across difference with empathy and understandingOther duties include writing student reports; effective communication and collaboration with students, colleagues, and families; and attendance at meetings.Principal Position Responsibilities/DutiesTeach and manage students in four sections of English in 8th and 9th gradePrepare course materialsMaintain student attendance and grade recordsEvaluate and grade students' workBe available to meet with students during office hours and planning periodsCreate and maintain a caring, safe environment conducive to students doing their best workImplement current curriculum and contribute to its ongoing developmentParticipate in the life of the middle and/or upper school by serving as an advisor and/or club sponsor as necessaryParticipate in all staff meetings, assemblies, and other required school functions, including occasional evening or weekend eventsWork constructively with parents and colleaguesInform parents and Division Director of students progress through written reports and conferencesAttend conferences, workshops, and other professional development opportunities, and participate in the faculty evaluation processAssume other duties as assignedMinimum Qualifications NecessaryBachelors Degree in English or related field (advanced degree and previous teaching experience preferred)Proficiency in the use of classroom technology: interactive smart boards, LMS, various Google and Microsoft Office applications, etcStrong interpersonal skillsOutstanding written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work effectively in a multicultural environment and respect different values and viewpointsPhysical Demands of This Job:Adequate physical mobility, dexterity, strength, and endurance to actively supervise and lead students and be responsible for their physical safety during all school-related activities, including evacuations and other emergency response proceduresThe position specifications described here are those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
