What are the responsibilities and job description for the System Coordinator position at The AES Corporation?
Primary Duties
- Continuous interface between AES Indiana power plants and the MISO market to ensure efficient and effective communication.
- Near-term Load / Market Price Forecasts
- Unit dispatch/unit commitment coordination as it pertains to the safe and reliable operation of AES Indiana’s resources.
- Lead real-time operations of AES Indiana’s generation portfolio based upon economic conditions.
- Nomination of natural gas to ensure that AES Indiana’s resources are available to provide reliable power to the bulk electric system.
- Natural gas imbalance and flow management in accordance with pipeline requirements and AES Indiana’s contractual parameters.
- Fuel and Purchased Power Cost Allocation, documentation of all operations
- Preparing daily Load Projections and offers for AES Indiana’s resources
- Adhering to NERC reliability standards in accordance with MISO directives for reliable power delivery.
- Improving the profitable utilization of AES Indiana’s electric resources through direct communication with those specific resources.
- Maintenance of System Energy Coordination Standard Operating Procedures
- Participating in the continuous maintenance of the System Energy Coordination Training Program.
- Participating in all required training and certification maintenance in accordance with AES Indiana System Energy Coordination plans and procedures.
- Coordinating all aspects of startup or shutdown of AES Indiana’s resources as it pertains to instructions from MISO and in accordance with system energy coordination plans and procedures.
- Responding appropriately to all other bulk electric system conditions in which AES Indiana’s participation is needed.
Basic Requirements:
- Must have a minimum of five (5) years of recent verifiable experience in one or more of the following areas: power plant operations, production/system planning or engineering, electric system operation, power scheduling, and/or production or financial analysis.
- Must pass the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) System Operator/Power Dispatching (SO/PD) test.
- Must be willing to work shift work (to include mornings, afternoons, nights, weekends, and holidays).
- Strong computer proficiency, MS Office applications, and comfort handling multiple systems simultaneously.
Preferred skills:
- Associates with a technical or higher degree preferred.
- Experience and/or understanding of the MISO market and Locational Marginal (LMP) preferred.
- Experience handling natural gas transportation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, proficient in the English language.
- Able to provide critical feedback in a constructive manner.
- Must be able to quickly adapt to changing business needs.
- Must be results-oriented, self-motivated, and able to make decisions with a minimum of direct supervision.
