Consulting Psychiatrist / Medical Director
Adanta is a private, nonprofit Community Mental Health Center serving ten counties in rural south-central Kentucky. For nearly 60 years, we have provided comprehensive behavioral health, substance use, crisis, and intellectual and developmental disability services to individuals and families throughout our region.
We are seeking a Board Certified or Board Eligible Psychiatrist licensed (or eligible for licensure) in Kentucky to serve as our Medical Director. This physician leadership position offers the opportunity to improve access to high quality psychiatric care in rural Kentucky while working in a collaborative, multidiscplinary environment.
Unlike many traditional psychiatric practives, this role is intentionally designed to emphasize physician consultation, clinical leadership, and care for individuals with complex psychiatric needs rather than maintaining a high-volume outptpatient practice. It is an excellent opportunity for a psychiatrist seeking a balanced workload, predictable schedule, and meaningful professional engagement.
Position Summary
This position is intentionally structured to emphasize physician consultation, interdisciplinary collaboration, quality oversight, and care for individuals with complex psychiatric needs rather than maintaining a high-volume outpatient practice. Working alongside APRNs, the Medical Director serves as a physician resource for diagnostic clarification, treatment resistant conditions, complex medication management, and specialized populations, including individuals with ASD and IDD.
Qualifications
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry
- Licensed or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Kentucky
- DEA registration and eligibility to prescribe controlled substances
- Previous experience within community behavioral health helpful
Responsibilities
- Provide medical oversight for psychiatric services, including mental health, substance use and co-occurring populations.
- Participate in treatment planning for individuals receiving services.
- Supervise and coordinate the provision of psychiatric services by the center.
- Leads quarterly prescriber meetings and participates in regular peer reviews, case presentations, and other clinical quality improvement activities to promote evidence-based practice and high-quality patient care.
- Provide consultation to psychiatrists, advanced practice providers, and clinical staff as needed.
- Support quality assurance, accreditation, and regulatorty compliance activites.
- Collaborate with agency leadership regarding psychiatric service delivery.
Clinical Responsibilities
This position is designed to complement our experienced team of psychiatric advanced practice registered nurses (APRN) by providing physician-level expertise for the individuals and situations that benefit most from psychiatric consultation.
