Position Overview
The Academy School, an independent K–8 school in Berkeley, is seeking a full-time Associate Teacher to join our team for the 2025–2026 school year. This role provides essential daily support across our K–8 program, with a primary focus on Kindergarten through 4th grade. The Associate Teacher is also our in-house substitute, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations and continuity of learning when teachers are absent.
This is a foundational role in our school community—ideal for someone who is collaborative, dependable, eager to learn, and excited to work closely with experienced lead teachers in a warm, rigorous academic environment.
We aim to fill this position immediately, and no later than January 5th.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide classroom support in K–4 and additional support in grades 5–8 as needed
- Substitute teach across subject areas when teachers are absent
- Assist lead teachers with instruction, classroom routines, small-group work, and student supervision
- Support recess, lunch, arrival, and dismissal duties
- Collaborate with faculty to maintain a safe, structured, and joyful learning environment
- Communicate positively and professionally with students, colleagues, and families
- Uphold school values and contribute to a culture of kindness, curiosity, and academic challenge
Schedule
- 8:00 AM–4:30 PM, Monday through Friday
- Full-time, on-campus role
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive hourly or salaried compensation, depending on experience
- Paid President’s Week Break: February 16–20, 2026
- Paid Spring Break: March 30–April 3, 2026
