Position Overview
The Academy School, an independent K–8 school in Berkeley, is seeking a full-time Lower Elementary Classroom Teacher for the 2025–2026 school year. This is a single-grade lead teaching position (Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, or 3rd grade), with final placement determined by experience and program needs.
We are looking for a warm, skilled educator who brings strong instructional practice and a clear understanding of how to support young learners with a range of strengths and needs. The ideal candidate is confident in implementing classroom accommodations, partnering with families, and working closely with colleagues to ensure students have what they need to succeed.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a lower elementary homeroom with responsibility for instruction, planning, and classroom culture
- Teach literacy, foundational math, social studies, and social-emotional learning
- Implement documented accommodations and classroom supports with consistency and care
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning profiles
- Collaborate closely with an Associate Teacher and specialist teachers
- Communicate regularly and professionally with families
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school-wide events
- Contribute to a school culture centered on kindness, curiosity, and academic excellence
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; teaching credential or Master’s in Education preferred
- Experience teaching or student-teaching in elementary grades
- Strong understanding of early literacy and early math instruction
- Demonstrated experience supporting students with accommodations (e.g., executive functioning supports, flexible seating, scaffolded assignments, pacing adjustments, etc.)
- Clear, compassionate communication
- Steady, collaborative presence and strong follow-through
Schedule & Compensation
