Job Title: Substitute Teacher  

Job Purpose:

The Substitute Teacher is a highly valued resource of the Charter School. This professional manages, instructs, and guides students toward growth in core academic subject areas, designs, paces, and provides meaningful learning experiences for students, enacts and embodies the Mission of The Academies, and contributes his/her talents to create an excellent program and positive school culture at the Charter School.  

Team Relationship:

The Substitute Teacher is directly responsible to the Administrative Manager and reports to the site Principal.  

Essential Job Functions:

  • Responsible in a classroom setting, as a core teacher, an enrichment teacher or as an intervention teacher, utilizing one on one instruction or a small group setting, in a manner consistent with the charter and educational philosophy of the school.
  • Follows the lesson plans provided by the classroom teacher or the school.
  • Monitors the safety and security of students.
  • Participates in professional development workshops and training, as needed.
  • Works a flexible schedule in order to accommodate the assignment needs.
  • Collaborates with fellow faculty and administrators to advance proven learning practices, develop/ pace curriculum, and share strategies for student success as a member of a team.
  • Meets deadlines and is well organized.
  • Maintains a respectful, safe, and nurturing learning environment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
 

Job Qualifications:

Education/Certifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree. (required)
  • Valid California 30-Day Emergency Substitute Teaching Credential or California Commission on Teacher Credentialing certificate, permit, or other document equivalent to that which a teacher in other public schools would be required to hold.
Experience
  • Two or more years teaching experience. (desired)
Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required
  • A love for students and learning and a positive role model for students.
  • A commitment to the mission/vision of The Academies.
  • A proven track record of/ eagerness to be innovative and dynamic in instructional methods.
  • Demonstrable effectiveness in teaching, mentoring, and writing.
  • Strong instructional leadership.
  • Caring for students and their success in learning: a deep commitment to student achievement.
  • Knowledge of educational psychology, learning theories, developmentally appropriate practices, and curriculum development.
  • Familiarity with or willingness to be trained in instructional methodology and procedural compliance.
  • Ability to modify the curriculum and materials for all students.
  • Strong classroom management skills and a proactive approach to student discipline.
  • Effective conflict resolution skills.
  • Integrity in all dealings with the school community; is respectful, thoughtful, decisive, principled, honest, and fair.
  • Recognition and acceptance of his/her responsibility for the success of The Academies, the charter school as a whole, as well as the success of individual students, and flexibility, resourcefulness, and commitment to these.
  • Commitment to excellence and ongoing professional growth.
  • Ability to follow established procedures in an emergency situation.

  • Transitional Kindergarten Teacher
  • Kindergarten Teacher
  • 1st Grade Teacher
  • 2nd / 3rd Grade Multi-age Teacher
  • 4th / 5th Grade Multi-age Teacher
  • Middle School Teacher
  • Enrichment Teachers, when subjects taught are Science, Art, P.E., Music
  • Intervention Teacher
