Position Summary
The Tailor is responsible for ensuring garments meet the highest standards of quality and fit. This role includes taking measurements, arranging fittings, constructing, altering, and repairing. The tailor is also expected to modify garments for customers based on their specifications, needs, and preferences.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Alter, repair, or fit made-to-measure or ready-to-wear garments.
- Take accurate measurements using tape measure and assess garment fit.
- Conduct fittings with customers to determine required alterations.
- Repair or replace defective garment parts (e.g., pockets, linings).
- Press garments using hand iron or pressing machine.
- Remove stitches and make adjustments as needed.
- Shorten or lengthen garment parts such as sleeves or legs.
- Expand or narrow garment parts such as waist or chest.
- Raise or lower garment parts such as collars or lapels.
- Resew garments using needle and thread or sewing machine.
- Pin or mark alteration lines on cloth at seams, darts, or necklines.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Tailor or Seamstress.
- Strong knowledge of fabrics, sewing techniques, and garment construction.
- Ability to operate sewing machines and other sewing equipment.
- Excellent attention to detail and hand-eye coordination.
- Effective communication and exceptional customer service skills.
- Ability to work under time constraints and manage multiple tasks.
- Must be authorized for work in the United States; this position does not offer sponsorship
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and/or stand. Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms. Occasionally required to walk, climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or twist. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
