Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Marine Service Technician and Tradesperson to join our team dedicated to maintaining and repairing vessel for both pleasure and commercial usage. In this energetic role, you will be responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing a wide range of marine systems, ensuring optimal performance and safety. Your expertise will help keep marine vessels operating smoothly, with precision and professionalism. This paid position offers a remote island setting, with a variety of projects and services.
Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting on marine engines, propulsion systems, electrical systems, and mechanical components using schematics, technical drawings, and diagnostic tools. Inboard and outboard services.
- Conduct electrical diagnostics and repairs on ship electrical systems, including troubleshooting marine electrical issues with multimeters, ohmmeters, and other precision measuring instruments.
- Utilize hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, soldering irons, fabrication tools, and sheet metal working techniques to complete repairs and assemblies efficiently.
- Interpret technical manuals and schematics to diagnose problems accurately; execute repairs involving mechanical systems such as water transportation equipment and marine propulsion units.
- Conduct routine inspections of marine vessels’ mechanical and electrical systems; perform preventive maintenance to ensure safety and compliance with industry standards.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriately during all maintenance activities to ensure safety for yourself and your team.
- Assist in rigging operations, heavy lifting tasks, and assembly work for various marine components while adhering to safety protocols.
- Support customer service efforts by providing clear communication about repair status and maintenance needs; collaborate with team members to ensure timely completion of projects.
Experience
- Experience is prefered.
- Hands-on experience with electrical diagnostics using multimeters or ohmmeters; troubleshooting marine electrical systems troubleshooting is preferred.
- Knowledge of water transportation equipment maintenance including vessel repairs involving sheet metal fabrication, welding, soldering, calipers use, and precision measurements. Fiberglass service and repair.
- Background in military service or engineering troubleshooting adds valuable perspective; experience with maintenance, repair & operations (MRO) practices is a plus.
- Ability to operate hand tools safely while performing heavy lifting tasks; familiarity with vehicle maintenance or marine mechanics enhances your suitability for this role.
