Position Summary:
The CNC Machinist at Thaler Defense Systems is a technical role responsible for the precision machining of high-performance aerospace and defense components. Working under the guidance of the Production Supervisor, this individual ensures that mission-critical parts meet exact tolerances and strict quality standards. This role is essential to maintaining production schedules, ensuring a safe and efficient work environment, and contributing to the continuous improvement of manufacturing processes within a high-performing team.
Essential Job Duties:
- Machine Setup & Operation: Set up, adjust, and operate CNC equipment (including horizontal/vertical mills and horizontal lathes) to perform difficult machining operations on diverse parts and dimensions.
- Technical Preparation: Select, align, and secure all necessary holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, and materials.
- Process Optimization: Monitor and refine machining processes; adjust offsets, speeds, and feeds to resolve issues and ensure optimum performance.
- Quality Control: Monitor machine operations to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance parts; inspect cutting tools for sharpness and usability to ensure finish specifications are met.
- Maintenance: Perform routine cleaning and basic upkeep of machines and tooling to support daily production readiness.
- Continuous Improvement: Recommend specific measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and overall product quality.
- Material Handling: Safely operate overhead cranes and use precision measuring instruments; lift and carry up to 50 lbs. independently (utilizing team lifts or devices for heavier loads).
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a vocational training course is preferred.
- Proven ability to set up and operate various types of CNC machine tools for progressive machining.
- Strong ability to read blueprints/plans, paired with excellent mechanical aptitude and mathematical problem-solving skills.
- Superior organizational and time management skills with a sharp focus on precision and accuracy.
- A self-starter who demonstrates personal accountability, discipline, and a proactive approach to daily tasks.
- Also required is the ability to operate overhead crane, read measuring instruments, and maintain machinery and equipment in the machining trade.
- Must be a U.S. person as defined by ITAR.
