Courier Driver / Independent Contractor – Richmond, VA

JP Transportation is expanding its courier operations in the Richmond, Virginia market and is seeking experienced, dependable, and professional Independent Contractor Courier Drivers to support new and growing delivery opportunities throughout the area.

We are currently looking for contractors operating a variety of reliable vehicles, including:

• Cars
• SUVs
• Cargo Vans
• Sprinter Vans
• Box Trucks

Opportunities may include dedicated scheduled routes, recurring delivery work, and on-demand deliveries. Compensation will vary based on the specific route, vehicle requirements, mileage, schedule, and scope of work.

This is a 1099 independent contractor opportunity and is ideal for experienced couriers who understand the importance of reliability, communication, professionalism, and providing excellent service.

Available Opportunities

Dedicated Routes:
We are seeking contractors interested in consistent route opportunities with established pickup and delivery requirements. These opportunities are a great fit for experienced couriers who prefer a structured schedule and clearly defined route responsibilities.

On-Demand / STAT Opportunities:
We are also building our network of flexible on-demand drivers throughout the Richmond market. These contractors should have flexible availability and the ability to respond to delivery opportunities as they become available.

Responsibilities

• Safely and professionally complete assigned pickups and deliveries.
• Operate your vehicle in accordance with all applicable traffic and safety regulations.
• Arrive at pickup and delivery locations on time and prepared.
• Maintain professional communication with dispatch and operations personnel.
• Utilize JP Transportation's company-approved dispatching application for route assignments, communication, navigation, status updates, and proof of delivery when required.
• Maintain an active smartphone capable of reliably running the required dispatching application throughout assigned routes.
• Properly handle packages, freight, equipment, or other materials based on individual route requirements.
• Obtain and maintain required proof of pickup and delivery.
• Immediately communicate delays, delivery issues, accidents, or other concerns to dispatch.
• Maintain a professional appearance and attitude while representing JP Transportation at customer locations.
• Keep your vehicle clean, safe, dependable, and properly maintained.

Qualifications & Requirements

Applicants must:

• Possess a valid driver's license.
• Maintain current vehicle registration and insurance that meet applicable requirements.
• Have access to a reliable and well-maintained vehicle appropriate for the contracted work.
• Have a reliable smartphone with active cellular/data service and GPS capabilities.
• Be willing and able to download, install, and utilize JP Transportation's required company-approved dispatching application on their smartphone while performing contracted services.
• Be comfortable using the dispatching application to receive assignments, communicate with dispatch, update delivery statuses, provide required documentation, and complete proof-of-delivery requirements.
• Maintain a strong driving and safety record.
• Be dependable, punctual, professional, and responsive.
• Be able to follow detailed pickup, delivery, and customer instructions.
• Be capable of safely handling the physical requirements associated with the route accepted.
• Successfully complete any applicable onboarding, background, motor vehicle record, or compliance requirements.

Previous courier, final-mile, medical courier, logistics, transportation, or delivery experience is strongly preferred.

Compensation

Pay varies by route and assignment.

Compensation is based on factors including the type of delivery, route requirements, mileage, vehicle type, schedule, and overall scope of work. Specific compensation details will be discussed with qualified applicants based on the opportunities for which they are being considered.

This is a 1099 independent contractor position. Contractors are responsible for their own vehicle, fuel, insurance, maintenance, taxes, and other applicable operating expenses unless otherwise specified for a particular assignment.
