Controls Technician - 3rd Shift

Position Summary:   Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electronic automated manufacturing assembly line systems, including electro-mechanical control systems, robotic systems, programmable logic controls, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and belt and chain drive conveyor systems. Performs preventative maintenance on equipment on a specified schedule.  Records, repair and preventative maintenance data into a computerized maintenance management system for future troubleshooting use.

 

Essential Duties and Requirements:                                                                                                          

  • Obtains and executes work orders from maintenance planner.
  • Performs preventative maintenance inspections, calibration, and routine diagnostic checks of automated systems. 
  • Programs, debugs, and troubleshoots PLC ladder logic. 
  • Monitors automated equipment throughout production run to ensure operation is within specified process parameters. 
  • Performs root cause analysis of failed components to reduce MTBF and MTTR.
  • Identifies, plans, and completes process improvement projects. 
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs production and packaging equipment.
  • Reads schematics, electrical drawings or engineering instructions to assist installation, troubleshooting, and repair of process equipment. 
  • Repairs or replaces electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and steam components as necessary.
  • Communicates and works cooperatively with co-workers and operators to ensure that machinery issues are identified and corrected in a timely manner.                              
  • Works safely and performs daily safety checks on all equipment.
  • Works on assigned machinery rebuild projects as necessary.                            
  • Enters maintenance, preventative maintenance records, and part usage in a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)
  • Knowledge of OSHA requirements to include Electrical Safety, machine Guarding and lockout tag out procedures.
  • Follows and enforces proper GMP practices.
  • Responsible for recognizing and reporting food safety and employee safety issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned 

 

Qualifications:

  • 2 or 4 year degree from Technical school preferred
  • Strong knowledge of PLC’s and Human Machine Interfaces (HMI)
  • Preferred experience with Allen Bradley
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical systems
  • Strong ability with computer systems such as MS Office and CMMS Systems
  • Working knowledge of preventative maintenance programs and systems

 

 

CLIMATE:

Works individually and in teams with little supervision.   Accuracy and attention to detail are critical as mistakes can cause significant lost productivity, loss of raw materials, downtime or food safety or employee safety issues.  The close proximity to processing equipment produces a loud work environment.  Individuals must communicate effectively with all operators, coworkers, and supervisors to obtain critical information and work within established procedures and guidelines for safe and efficient operations.  Individuals are exposed to heavy machinery, heat, humidity and strenuous work.  The work is fast-paced and involves climbing, lifting and reaching.  This position requires weekend work with a flex schedule and work in excess of eight hours per day as business priorities dictate.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job may direct co-worker’s daily activities but has no direct responsibility.

Education and/or Experience

Prior manufacturing maintenance experience is a plus preferably in a food or pharmaceutical industry.

 

Language Skills

Ability to read, verify and confirm all work orders, technical manuals, blueprints and instructions in a timely manner.  

 

Mathematical Skills

Must be able to perform basic math calculations and measurements.

 

Reasoning Ability

Ability to follow technical manuals.  Ability to recognize problems and determine a course of action such as making authorized corrections or knowing when to seek assistance from a supervisor of equipment.

Salary : $37 - $47
