Training & Development Manager / HR Business Partner

Greenwood, South Carolina
$110,000 – $140,000 base salary benefits

About the role

Our client is a growing advanced manufacturing business seeking an experienced Training & Development Manager / HR Business Partner to build and embed a structured learning, capability and workforce development framework across its expanding operations in Greenwood, South Carolina.

This is not simply a training delivery position. The successful candidate will take existing operational and technical knowledge and turn it into a scalable, consistent and measurable training system that supports workforce growth, productivity, quality and operational excellence.

Working closely with site leadership, HR, production, engineering and technical subject-matter experts, you will capture critical knowledge, establish competency standards and create clear development pathways for employees across the manufacturing organization.

The role will particularly suit someone who has helped build training infrastructure within a manufacturing, engineering, semiconductor, chemical, pharmaceutical, life sciences or other technically complex operational environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Design and implement the site's overall training, learning and capability development framework.
  • Partner with production, engineering, facilities and technical teams to translate existing operational knowledge into structured and practical training programs.
  • Develop competency matrices, skills frameworks, onboarding programs and role-based learning pathways across key manufacturing functions.
  • Capture knowledge held by experienced employees and subject-matter experts and convert it into repeatable training content and documentation.
  • Adapt and localize existing technical and operational training materials for the US site.
  • Build and implement train-the-trainer programs, enabling managers, supervisors and technical specialists to deliver effective internal training.
  • Conduct training needs analysis and identify capability gaps across production, engineering, maintenance and operational teams.
  • Develop appropriate learning interventions to address identified technical, behavioral and leadership capability gaps.
  • Establish clear standards for training content, documentation, assessment and employee competency sign-off.
  • Develop methods for evaluating training effectiveness and measuring improvements in capability and operational performance.
  • Track training completion, certification requirements, competency progression and compliance.
  • Support structured onboarding and qualification programs for new employees as headcount continues to grow.
  • Partner with site leadership to ensure training priorities are aligned with workforce planning, productivity and future manufacturing requirements.
  • Support managers with employee development, succession planning and broader capability-building initiatives.
  • Contribute to wider HR Business Partner activities where required, acting as a trusted partner to site leadership and functional managers.
  • Help embed a culture of continuous learning, knowledge sharing and operational consistency across the organization.

Experience and qualifications

  • Strong experience within Learning & Development, Training Management, Organizational Development, HR Business Partnering or manufacturing capability development.
  • Demonstrable experience building training systems and frameworks from the ground up, rather than solely delivering established training programs.
  • Experience within manufacturing, engineering, industrial or other operational environments is strongly preferred.
  • Candidates from semiconductor, chemical manufacturing, pharmaceutical, life sciences, medical manufacturing, electronics, advanced materials or other technically complex manufacturing environments would be particularly relevant.
  • Strong ability to take technical, operational or process knowledge and convert it into clear and accessible training material.
  • Experience developing competency matrices, skills assessments, training needs analysis and structured learning pathways.
  • Experience designing onboarding and employee qualification programs.
  • Proven experience implementing train-the-trainer or subject-matter-expert-led training models.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to work directly with production leadership, engineers, technical specialists and senior management.
  • Experience supporting organizational growth, manufacturing ramp-up or facility expansion would be highly advantageous.
  • Strong documentation, project-management and program-development skills.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-growing environment where processes and infrastructure are still being developed.
  • Able to balance strategic program design with practical, hands-on implementation.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Learning & Development, Business, Engineering or a related discipline preferred.
  • Professional qualifications such as SHRM, HRCI, CPTD or equivalent would be advantageous but are not essential.

Candidate background

We are particularly interested in individuals who have helped organizations capture knowledge and build capability during periods of manufacturing growth or operational change.

Relevant environments could include:

  • Semiconductor and electronics manufacturing
  • Chemical and specialty chemical production
  • Pharmaceutical and biotechnology manufacturing
  • Life sciences and medical manufacturing
  • Advanced materials
  • Battery and energy-storage manufacturing
  • Automotive and high-tech manufacturing
  • Other sophisticated industrial or process-driven environments

Direct sector experience is less important than the ability to understand a technical manufacturing environment and create a training structure that is practical, scalable and measurable.

Why consider this opportunity?

This role offers the opportunity to build something meaningful rather than inherit a fully established training function.

You will have significant scope to shape how employees are onboarded, trained and developed as the operation grows, while working directly with site leadership and technical teams.

For somebody who enjoys combining Learning & Development, operational capability building and HR Business Partnering, this is an opportunity to have a visible impact on the development of a growing US manufacturing organization.
