Accounting & Office Manager
Privately Owned Land Surveying Company | Choteau, MT
Location: Onsite, Monday–Friday in Choteau, MT, with the opportunity to work 1–2 days per week from our Great Falls office
Compensation: $90,000–105,000 per year, plus bonus potential
About the Role
Our client is a privately owned land surveying and engineering firm looking for an Accounting & Office Manager to take ownership of our financial operations and keep the office running smoothly. This is a hands-on role with real influence. You'll own the numbers, build the processes that don't exist yet, and help shape how the firm operates as it grows. Your focus is the business side: accounting, billing, cash flow, and office operations.
What You'll Do
- Own project accounting, billing and invoicing, payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable for our surveying and engineering operations
- Run the monthly close
- Perform job-cost analysis and track budgets against project parameters
- Clean up and work down outstanding AR and unbilled work, then build repeatable billing and collections processes so it stays that way
- Establish formal cash-flow forecasting and budgeting
- Work in QuickBooks Desktop today and help lead our planned migration to Sage or an enterprise online platform
- Evaluate vendor and acquisition costs and make recommendations (for example, a cost analysis on a new phone provider)
- Handle general office-manager tasks as they arise
- Learn the business well enough to identify and drive operational improvements
What They're Looking For
- Experience: 5–8 years preferred
- Background: Prior titles such as Office Manager, Office Coordinator, or Bookkeeper
- Education: B.S. in Accounting preferred, or equivalent experience
- Hard skills: Project accounting, billing, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, and monthly close
- Software: Microsoft Excel, QuickBooks (Desktop 2019 today), Deltek, Sage, and project management software
- Industry: Construction or manufacturing experience preferred. Backgrounds in automotive/mechanical, real estate, and legal transfer well.
