About the Role
TFC is seeking a motivated and analytical IT Staff Auditor to support federal auditing and consulting engagements with a focus on information technology controls and systems. This entry-level role provides hands-on experience supporting IT audit activities, including control testing, documentation, and client engagement support.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, eager to learn, and interested in developing expertise in IT auditing, internal controls, and risk management. This role offers the opportunity to build foundational consulting skills while contributing to meaningful federal initiatives and strengthening IT control environments.
This position supports federal government contracts and requires U.S. Citizenship. Work location is client-dictated and may include on-site work at locations such as Navy Yard and Tysons Corner, with potential for limited hybrid flexibility. Candidates must be able to work in person as required by the client and may be required to relocate to the Rockville, MD area prior to starting.
Key Responsibilities
- Support IT audit engagements, including IT general controls (ITGC) and system control assessments.
- Take detailed notes during client meetings, walkthroughs, and audit discussions.
- Assist in facilitating and documenting process walkthroughs related to IT systems and controls.
- Review Prepared by Client (PBC) documentation and supporting evidence for completeness and accuracy.
- Draft audit workpapers in accordance with engagement standards and methodologies.
- Perform testing of IT controls, including: Access Management (user provisioning, deprovisioning, and access reviews), Change Management (system changes, approvals, and deployments), IT Operations (job monitoring, backups, incident management)
- Document testing procedures, results, and identified control deficiencies.
- Assist in developing audit documentation, including narratives, flowcharts, and reports.
- Collaborate with engagement teams to meet project timelines and deliverables.
- Apply audit and consulting methodologies to support risk assessments and compliance efforts.
- Participate in quality assurance processes to ensure accuracy and completeness of work.
- Proactively ask questions, seek feedback, and volunteer for tasks to expand knowledge and experience.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Data Analytics, or a related field.
- Foundational understanding of IT systems, internal controls, or auditing concepts.
- Exposure to IT audit, cybersecurity, or risk management concepts is a plus.
- Familiarity with frameworks such as NIST, FISMA, or general IT control concepts is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments in a deadline-driven environment.
- Willingness to learn, take initiative, and actively contribute to team success.
Preferred Certifications
Candidates may hold or be pursuing one or more of the following certifications:
- Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA)
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
- Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
- Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM)
