TENURE-TRACK ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF DANCE

Position:

The Division of Dance at Texas Woman's University invites applications for the full-time tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Dance starting August 2027. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in dance or a closely related field and be actively engaged in a combination of physical practice, creative process, and theoretical inquiry. We seek applicants who have an interest in teaching across all of the Division's graduate and undergraduate programs, from in-studio dance and creative practice classes, to dance theory in Ph.D. seminars.

The Division is interested in supporting a faculty member with a commitment to integrating practice and theory, practice-as-research and dance-making practices. The Division is particularly interested in a faculty member with a culturally or philosophically distinct perspective in dance through an active movement and pedagogical practice in any form, including African Diasporic, Latinx, Indigenous, Middle-Eastern, Asian, Ballet or Contemporary.

Applicants must have teaching experience, distinct scholarship and potential to build a service record commensurate with appointment at the rank of assistant professor in an accredited dance program. Strong applicants will demonstrate a commitment to excellence in one or more of the following teaching contexts: pedagogy, contemporary dance practices, dance studies, somatics, dance making and interdisciplinary studies. They will also have an active research agenda with a record of regional and national presentations, performances or publications. Furthermore, strong candidates will demonstrate the interest and potential to engage in active, collaborative service to the division, university and profession. The applicant must demonstrate the ability to work with a diverse body of students.

Responsibilities:
Because the Division values praxis that builds across the communities of learners we serve, responsibilities include teaching across all the Division's programs, including teaching doctoral seminars, advising doctoral and master's students, and studio practice, at all levels of the B.A., M.A., M.F.A., and Ph.D. Additional responsibilities include participating in shared governance through committee service, and making substantive contributions to the growth and development of the TWU Division of Dance project initiatives. Scholarly productivity in the form of presentations/performances in national and/or international forums is required.

To Apply:
Review of applications will begin November 15, 2026 and will continue until the position is filled. Please submit a cover letter, CV, teaching philosophy, writing sample, research philosophy, evidence of teaching ability (such as teaching evaluations and/or syllabi), a sample of artistic/scholarly output (such as publications, presentations, performances, screendance or installation work) that can be in the form of a Vimeo or on-line link and three letters of recommendation. Additional materials and/or references may be requested at a later date.

The Division of Dance at TWU Description:
The Division of Dance offers the B.A., M.A., M.F.A., and Ph.D. degrees. As a nationally accredited and internationally renowned dance program, we provide a diverse community of students, including many first-generation students, the chance to pursue their dreams of a career in dance performance, education or another related field. One of only five Ph.D. programs in the country, and the oldest continually operating Ph.D. program in the nation (this year marks the Ph.D. program's 68th year!) TWU's Division of Dance believes that every body can dance, and everyone can pursue a college degree. Our mission is to educate a diverse body of students in an inclusive community through skill-based practices and creative research endeavors at the bachelor's, master's and doctoral levels and to prepare dancers for fulfilling careers as global citizens, artist scholars and leaders in a variety of settings. In fulfilling this mission, we are proud of the more than 120-year history of dance being offered in the curriculum at TWU. The Division of Dance serves a diverse population of approximately 80 undergraduate dance majors and 50 graduate students. More than 60% of TWU's undergraduates are students who identify as being of color, primarily Hispanic, African American and Asian/Pacific Islander; 89% are women and half are the first in their families to attend college.
